This didn't happen to me, but today, I overheard the conversation between an SC and one of our stockmen. The SC had just noticed a bistro set (it was a metal table and the two chairs that went with it) that she was interested in, and tried it out. But then the stockboy informed her that it had been sold about the very moment she noticed it. This is the conversation that followed:
SC: I'd like to purchase this set. How much is it?
Stock: Actually, that lady that just walked out already bought it, and I was just preparing to bring it out.
SC: Oh, so it's already sold?
Stock: Yes.
SC: So you don't have anymore in the back?
Stock: No, we don't.
SC: Oh. So you're sure it's already been paid for?
Stock: Yes...
SC: So I really can't have it?
Stock: ...
This conversation repeated itself for a few more minutes, but she eventually gave up.

Stock: ...Oh ma'am, I never said that! The woman that just walked out had a feeling you wanted the Bistro Set, and she bought it for you!
Now just give me a second to get this onto a cart, and I'll go out with you to your car and load it up for you!

I think what the customer meant is if she could have it ordered for her....
How's the progress on that ESP helmet coming along?

Nah, I think she wanted to walk away with that particular one in her car today.
Hmm, walk away? car? I should lay off the drinking and posting.

Even if she wanted to order it, we couldn't. It was on clearance. :D

Careful with that, she might not notice the sarcasm.

But that would be ideal! She walks out to her car, leaving the poor stockboy alone so he can do his job. She waits out in the heat for half an hour, during which time the stockboy clocks out and goes home but not before he preps the cashier to tell the woman, "We don't have anyone working here that fits that description. We did, but he disappeared under mysterious circumstances about five years ago. We don't like to talk about it."
But I'm evil like that.

some lady the other day who got pissed at me for not sympothizing with her that we were sold out of our items we were giving away for 1 cent each, (folders, 12 packs of pencils, pencil sharpeners) when I explained to her its 7PM on a saturday night when you have arrived, and the sale has been going all week since sunday
nobody in the store is resposible for what items we get in stock, its a mega sale that only exists to get you in the store to buy other products and of course you don't want or need anything else, you just want the cheapie stuff, and we won't see you again unless there is another huge sale
then call my manager to "tell on me" or whatever, like I care, I know the manager really doesn't give a shit about you
I hate these people because the manager has to cave when they threaten to call corporate becuase the manager didn't give in to whatever redicolous demand they requested

This reminded me of an sc I once had...
I was helping one nice customer fine a review book. We walked over to the aisle, where another woman was looking at the review books ('twas the season). I scan the shelves, find the *last* copy of the book, and hand it to my customer. She leaves happy.
The other customer then proceeds to turn into an sc and reprimand me b/c I just walked up and took the book she was looking for right out from under her nose and it was the last one and we **** well better find her a copy now.
B/c of course I'm supposed to just automatically know that particular book was the one she wanted, and to tell the customer I'm actually assisting that she can't have the book b/c You need it.
SC: So I really can't have it?
Stock: ...Oh ma'am, I never said that! The woman that just walked out had a feeling you wanted the Bistro Set, and she bought it for you!
Now just give me a second to get this onto a cart, and I'll go out with you to your car and load it up for you!
And promise me you'll just wait out there for it to come. It may be awhile, so just be patient.
