My father-in-law's birthday is coming up. He spent a few years in France, immersing himself in the language. He recently lamented to me that he regretted giving away his French copy of The Count of Monte Cristo. My wife and I would like to replace it for him for his birthday.

I've looked for it online, but I can't figure out what I'm looking at ordering. On English sites, the French copy is listed with very few details. Some of those editions appear to have been divided into two parts, and I'd hate to order only half of the book. The sites that appear to have all the details I'd need are French, and I do not speak or read French.

Does anyone out there know where I can get a complete French copy of The Count of Monte Cristo, either as a single book or in parts?

Here it is in Amazon in two volumes...

http://www.amazon.com/Comte-Monte-Cristo-Alexandre-Dumas/dp/226609033X/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-1019437-6171159?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1174510113&sr=1-1

http://www.amazon.com/Comte-Monte-Cristo-2/dp/2266090348/ref=pd_sim_b_1/104-1019437-6171159?ie=UTF8&qid=1174510113&sr=1-1

**If there is a university near you, could you call someone in their foreign language department? Perhaps they could direct you somewhere to purchase it.

you can try searching keyword "Le Comte de Monte-Cristo" at bn.com, too. there's a bunch, though, it's kind of hard to tell what's what on some of them; some of them look like it's the whole book in one volume, but i can't tell for sure...

I could find out tomorrow at work, though, if we have them at the warehouse...I'll check for you if you'd like.

Edit: Sorry, I checked the computer and we don't have any of them in the warehouse, except the first one (McGraw-Hill/de Sales) and that's aimed at high school students. Oh, well, I tried. *sigh*

Thanks BookstoreEscapee and Sportsmom! With that information, I think I've found what I need. The company I work for gets a corporate discount at B&N.com, but you're right in that the search results were kinda vague. So I referenced from the Amazon.com links and got the books with B&N. Perfect.

Just one more reason to love this site and its members!

Also, I believe Tollbaby speaks fluent French. I can't volunteer(sp? looks wrong) her services or anything but that's who I'd PM if I needed help.

Hehehe...if we had had a copy in the warehouse I was going to edit the book's file to make it more clear on the website. I kinda like that I can do that ;) I promise to only use my power for good, never for evil
