My satellite is out for a while (meaning: I can't pay the bill) so I got movies!
First one I watched is called Straight into Darkness. When I first saw the box cover, I thought "Cool. A new zombie movie I haven't seen." Turns out that the art is misleading. There are no zombies (or horror) anywhere in the film. But I watched it anyway.
I'm glad I did, because it was actually a VERY good movie. It's a low-budget, independent WWII film. Low budget doesn't mean bad in this case. It's about two American GIs who deserted, got captured, escaped, and hole up in a building in France. There they discover 2 adults and a bunch of orphan children that are also hiding out. The children have been trained by the adults in guerrilla warfare.
The Germans come by, because they want something in the building (this is near the end of the war. You can probably guess what.) and a battle takes place. The orphans give a good fight, but.. well, only one GI and 3 kids survive.
It actually was better the second time I watched it.
The second movie is called Homecoming. Now this one is a zombie movie; just not your typical zombie movie. There is no flesh eating, no deaths by being bitten, no brain eating. In fact, there was only one death by zombie, and it was by being beaten. The story goes like this: The US in in the middle of an unpopular war. The movie didn't say where, but you KNOW it's Iraq. The bodies of the dead soldiers are coming back, and they aren't happy. They reanimate for one reason. Not to eat flesh, but to vote. The ones that died know they died because this war was started by, and supported by, lies. They want to vote the current administration out of office. BTW, the President in the movie sounds VERY much like President Bush. There is also a character very similar to Ann Coulter.
For us zombie fans, this isn't a Romero movie. But it is a very good movie. It would never win an Oscar, but I recommed renting it.
That's it for now!
