As most of you know- I hate cel phones. Despise them to the very core of my being. I DO NOT own a cel phone. I DO NOT want a cel phone.

I may have to get a cel phone. *slamsheadintotable*

My new job is requiring me to be gone from home more and leave my kiddo with friends, etc. I NEED to know what's going on with my kid and since it's nearly impossible to find a payphone or a general number to the places I have to go...well, you see where this is headed.

I have to do the same conferences, etc. that the Store Managers and higher do because I'm a secondary SM. If/when I get promoted higher there will be even more things I'll be expected to do.
Which is fine. I just really don't want a cel phone.

But I love my kid... the things I do for love. LOL

Just stick with a pay as you go phone or even a tracfone, if they still make those.....don't buy any super expensive plans, and if you don't want anything fancy, don't shoot for anything fancy.

It really won't be that horrible, NightAngel. You will only be checking up on your kids, it's not like you'll be using it as a fashion accessory or a gossip machie. If you keep it simple, you won't feel as if you are compromising your opinion on something.

My aunt and uncle just now got cell phones and they felt the exact same way. They try to use them as little as possible. :) I'm surprised you and them got this far without one. You're not a sell-out, don't worry. Good luck!

NA, you could get a MotoFone F3. That thing only has 6 menu functions, and no wap/gprs/wifi/ability to clean your house. Basically it makes/receives calls and text messages.
Here's a site you can get an (indepedent) review on: http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_motofone_f3-review-134.php

Night's getting a ce~eell phone, Night's getting a ce~eell phone, Night's getting a ce~eell phone!

Eeeheeheeheeheehaahaaahaahahahahaaaa!

Okay, 'nuff of that. *chuckles*

I completely understand your feelings on the cell phone thing, but it seems you're in a situation where you're goint to actually need it. I got mine when my roomie cut off the phone in our place a couple weeks before we moved out.

I think you'll be fine. Just make sure you get a phone you're comfortable with, and a plan that fits your needs.

Maybe your work can provide you with a company cell. Since they are the ones who are going to be needing to get ahold of you and what not.

My cell is company owned, I get 400 minutes on it and usually only use 50 minutes, if that. I will have to pay for any photos that I e-mail from my phone but at a quarter each big woop.

There's always that thing. I don't care if it's for "old people" it looks pretty nifty to me, and really straightforward. Just a phone without all the insanity.

Still, I just like the big boo-tons. *pushes all the buttons*

I am shamefully interested in the Verizon Chocolate phones. I usually carry my MP3 player with me. IF/when I get a cel phone and I'm carrying it and my MP3 player I'm going to start feeling bogged down with crap.

I don't carry a purse. Just a wallet my keys are attatched the wallet and usually (but not always) my MP3 player- that's all I ever have with me. The Chocolate phones play MP3's as well- so it would be a 1 for 1 trade off. I hate having to lug a bunch of stuff around. Even if it's all small stuff.

While company phones are not provided Verizon offers some "amazing" discount to people in my company. Besides, I can't expect my job to provide me with a phone for calling my family.

I got the cherry chocolate as my free upgrade phone this year and I love it. To use as an MP3 player, you will need to buy the proprietary cable and software package from Verizon ($20.00) and a microSD card. Other than that though, the phone is great! I find the navigation easy, and love the non-button buttons on the outside. Now if I would just stop being lazy, and go get the bluetooth and not have to have any wires running from it I would be in heaven!!

...........why do people hate cell phones so much? Just wondering. I love my cell phone. I don't even have a home phone, never have.

Having a cell phone does not make you one of those jerk cell phone users. You have to WORK for that. And you can get pretty cheap plans. Having a cell phone does not make you a bad person. :p

And if your problem is you don't want people being able to get in touch with you at all times, then tell work / friends / whoever that you only answer it between blah and blah and turn it off at other times.

I hate them because it seems like everyone who owns them are addicts.
Okay, don't jump me- I know not everyone is.

But seriously, I can't tell you how many times I'm trying to talk to someone (not just work related) and their cel rings- they won't even let you finsh your sentence! They just whip out the phone and start talking. It's an every day occurance- usually more than once a day.

I find almost every ringtone to be obnoxious and everyone seems to think their ringtone needs to be on the HIGHEST volume possible. You may think it's cool- but I don't. Just like I don't think the guy with the thumpin' bass in his car rattling my windows is annoyng- your ringtone is that obnoxious to me as well.

I don't need other people to entertain me all the time. Nor do I need to talk to anyone all the time. I like being alone in my head with my thoughts. I like having times when no one can reach me- I don't want the hassle of the, "Why didn't you answer your cel? I called 10 times!" I don't drink and drive nor will I phone and drive- I prefer to listen to the radio anyway.

In the past I owned a cel- I thought it was really cool at first. Then, slowly it became more and more annoying until one day I couldn't stand the blasted thing anymore. I paid the cancellation fee, gave the phone away and never looked back.

I hardly ever use my cell. Only when I really need too.

I agree with everyone else. I don't like cell phones and never had one until a couple of years ago. I have a Cingular prepaid phone. My daughter uses it more than I. She is the one that said that she will never have one, now she has to have it for texting.

I don't need a lot of fancy things, just as long as it will make and receive calls and has voice mail. I hated the fact that they phased out digital, the phones were perfect for my needs. Now they seem to do everything but clean the house.

My mum absolutely hates cell phones and refused point blank to own one until fairly recently. We persuaded her to get one to keep in her handbag for emergencies, but as she never turned it on...it was only suitable for emergencies for HER. Now my dad is getting very frail and not so stable on his legs, and recently fell over and couldn't get up, while my mum was in London for the day, so mum has a nicer phone and has realised that she HAS to keep it on and be contactable.

However, you would never know my mum has a phone. She doens't talk on it in public, she doesn't whip it out and wave it around, she doesn't text on it endlessly. She just has it, and occasionally talks on it.

ahh, so it would seem... but, i have a little trick for you. just downloaded songs to your computer. and then transfer them to your Micro SD. then piut your Micro SD in the phone. my fiancee and i did it, and didn't pay a dime for nything other than the phones and Micro SD. there may be a little more to it though. my fiancee transferred the songs, but i know we didn't pay for it,

but i love the Chocolate. i wish i had waited a few months longer, and i would have gotten a different color...

Hmm. That would assume I have one of those to begin with. Which I probably do as I have a SanDisk MP3 player. Then there would be the whole, "Do I want to take apart my MP3?" Which I don't.

Also, if you have to crack the case on the phone you are voiding your warranty. I know from reading threads here that they DO know when you do that.

I Googled the Micro SD and it looks like you probably paid close to the same price for it alone as you would have for the kit anyway.

The kit does not include a Micro SD, and on the chocolate, you don't have to crack the case to get the card in and out, there is a nice little door on the side. The media kit is just the proprietary USB cable, proprietary earbuds and software. The biggest issue with the phone is that EVERYTHING has to plug in through the charger port, and it isn't something simple like mini-USB, it is a proprietary connection port. You still want a memory card as the phone only has about enough memory for 5-6 songs on it's own. I finally brokedown last night, and ordered a Kingston 1GB microSD for $10.00 though, and I got a great deal on a Plantronics Bluetooth headset. Hopefully by next week I will finally be rocking out with my phone.

My friend FE is really bad about that. His phone rings, he stops what he is doing (not counting work) and answers it. Admittedly, he has his fingers in many pies, but he COULD let it go to voice mail. Of course, that would require him to check his voice mail, which I know he never does. Lazy? Yep. That's Frank.

Myself, I have my phone with me all the time, but if I am in the middle of something, like, say, talking to someone, the worst I will usually do is glance at my phone to see who it is and, if it is not majorly important, as it usually isn't, hit the button that silences the ringer and let it go to voice mail so I can deal with it later.

Amusing story my friend Mustache Dave told me recently:

He was running a construction crew of some sort (don't ask me for details, I don't do construction!) and a guy came to seek work. As Dave was talking to him, the guy's cell phone rang. Okay, things happen, we can all see THAT happening to us, but then the guy did the unforgiveable. He looked at Dave, said "Hold on," and answered the phone. Dave calmly waited as the guy talked for about 4 minutes on the phone. When he finally finished, the guy went back to talking about working for Dave. Dave looked at him and said, "You know what? We really don't need you working here. You should probably look elsewhere."

I LOVE that. Has my phone gone off in interviews? Yes. But:
1. In any situation like that, my phone WILL be on vibrate only.
2. In any situation like that, I will not answer my phone, will merely hit the button to stop the vibrate.
3. In any situation like that, I will then deal with the incoming call AFTER the interview.

Amusingly, while interviewing at one restaurant in January, my phone DID go off, and everything happened as listed above. When I left the interview, I checked the message, and it was another restaurant around the corner from where I was at, actually the one I had applied at before heading to the one I had just interviewed at. The manager had left me a message, wanting to talk to me about a job there. I called back, she asked how soon I could be there, I did an about face and got there in about three minutes....and that is now the place I work at, and the place that ennabled me to quit the last job and stick it to my former boss, the infamous Shit Weasel.

The thing with cells? It's all in how you use them, just like anything else. People who are idiots in general are going to be idiots on cells. :D
