Okay, so I have a love affair with WINCO, it has to be the best grocery store in the country. One thing that they do to keep prices low is that they do not accept credit cards. They have huge signs at the entrance that say "due to high credit card fees and in an effort to keep prices low, we do not accept credit cards. We will happily accept cash, check, debit card, and EBT card payments"
So, of course what happens yesterday when I was there?
Yup, guy in front of me in line argues with the cashier for a good four minutes about how they can have such terrible customer service with not accepting credit cards and why don't they post anything to let people know that they don't accept credit cards... blah blah blah.
Seriously people, WINCO is the cheapest grocery store in the state because they have cut every cost they can (no baggers, minimal floor staff, no credit cards), you are actually getting a lot for what you pay for. If you want a place that is going to kiss your ass and take your high fee credit card, then go to Smiths and pay at least 15% more.

Though a really funny prank that some IT guy pulled on the cashiers. One the card reader, the options for cash back are $30, $40, $101, $5348, other.
Oh, how I wish I had $5348 in my checking account, just so I could push that button and see what happens

But why would she read? That could prove her wrong and we can't have that! (I wish I had the money in my account to push the button now too)

We just recently got a new WINCO in the area and I'll agree that they have awesome prices! The only downside is that their produce is never that great (at least at my location).

I go in every week and it never fails to hear this rant at least once a trip! The signs are HUGE when you walk in! You really shouldn't be able to miss them! *looks up at the site I'm at...* oh yea...

We have an Aldi near us, and they don't accept credit cards. I only realised this when I tried using mine and it didn't work. I've been going there for years, always using my debit card and must have got them mixed up. I wasn't a twat about it, because it certainly wasn't the cashiers fault! I just used my other card and went on my merry way.

I love Winco!! I've been going to the same one for years now. I also like bagging my own groceries cause I can do it the way I want.

I do the online Safeway thing when we don't have a car.....but right now we do have one so I'm back to Winco. Plus their bulk section is amazing....you can get so much there for cheap.

Our store spends money though cause they just replaced every single checkout lane with new ones that aren't orange

I loved that store when I lived near it! Bulk stuff is love. It has so much stuff, but I will agree that the produce is a bit off sometimes. But the rest of it is awesome.
My only regret is that I don't have a better word for "F@#k You".

Not only that, but when it first opened in Salt Lake, if memory serves, Big Budah (a local tv personality) was talking about them and just how great they were with their selection of bulk food and him explicitly saying "keep in mind though, they keep their prices low by cutting wherever they can, and one area they have cut is accepting credit cards so make sure you have cash, check, or debit with you when you go to stock up on their bulk food selection"
Now normally, people can tell you details about Big Budah's cool school of the week or what crazy restaurant he had to eat at or what crazy whatever he's done... but they can't remember him giving that warning that they don't take credit cards. (and considering he has a large enough following that he could change the outcomes of elections if he so desired, I think it just proves how stupid and entitled some people can be when it comes to their precious double miles no black out dates venture platinum travel cards).

Ah, Winco. The bulk section RAWKS!
I have found their produce to be pretty good generally. Maybe it's a locational thing. They certainly beat Wally World's produce by a furlong or five.
On a slightly related topic, I had a former Wally employee tell me that the management of WM doesn't hire enough people to effectively rotate their produce, prefering to take the loss of money on bad vegetation rather than on wages and benefits. Any WM employees out there who can confirm/dispute?
