Default We don't take appointments.

From a coworker today:

We sell tires, and install them. Installation is first-come, first-serve, no appointments.

Today, my friend is dealing with a pretty long line of people, when a couple comes up next in their line and claims they have an appointment.

WTF?

She tells them, sorry, they've never taken appointments, it's first-come, first-serve.

They tell her that they made an appointment the day before with someone, so they want to have their car serviced first, ahead of the 5 other cars that came in before them.

She tells them they must be mistaken, because we don't even have an appointment system. As for servicing their car first, no way. They can leave and come back, but there are at least 5 cars that must be serviced first.

They leave to go shopping for maybe an hour and come back, asking why the car was not done.

She tells them sorry, there were 5 cars ahead of them so they had to be serviced first, and that she told them that before they left.

They scream for a manager.

Manager comes. Tells them the same thing.

Apparently this evolved into a scene involving yelling and screaming at my friend and the manager. They demand the corporate number. We let them borrow our phone, and they make their complaint, and demand that my friend be reprimanded! When the man finished reaming into the phone, he gets this smug look on his face and says "She wants to talk to you." (my friend)

My friend picks up the phone and the lady on the other end asks if she had explained the situation and how long the car will take. It's most likely done by this point, my friend says, and that she had told them that they must be mistaken but we've never taken appointments, and that other people had come before them. The lady on the phone says not to worry, you're not in trouble, and asks to speak to the customer again.

The guy gets back on the phone, and his face slowly drains of color as he listens. He then SLAMS down the phone, screams GIVE ME MY KEYS, I AM NEVER COMING BACK HERE AGAIN, and leaves.

Apparently Corporate Lady said that we are sorry, our company doesn't take and never have taken appointments. My friend and manager are not in the wrong, but your car is ready now. But we are sorry for the wait. Have a nice day!

Go Corporate! (How many people can say that?)

Sounds like he's also one of those people who dials the wrong number and refuses to believe it.

Someone probably "booked an appointment" just to get him to go away.

I'll bet $20 he did have an appointment. Someplace else. And forgot where he called.

I'll add another $20 to Morgana's bet.

I have 5$ on it being the "Made the appointment just to get the guy off the wrong number" one.

Several years ago my phone number was just one digit off that of a local hotel-restaurant. Their reservations #, more precisely. Most callers realized their mistake and apologized, some didn't, some insisted that they hadn't made a mistake so I was happy to take their table and room reservations.

I informed the hotel about this, mentioned that as long as this happens I *will* continue to make a reservation for anyone who calls my number. It was also a backdoor to staff members who'd otherwise get reamed for missing reservations and a "subtle" way to inform SC:s that THEY had called the wrong number in the first place. I wouldn't change my phone number either, my father had had it for 30+ years before I got it. It only took them a few months to convince corporate to change theirs...

That would never happen with our corporate office!

They would have given them lifetime service for free, stock with the company and bought them dinner at Ruth's Criss.

Shortly after that, they would have fired the entire staff!!!

Even after saying the staff was correct....our corporate doesn't have the common sense of a small dirty soap dish!
