Recruiting from Other Sites

I was wondering if it was possible to recruit members from other sites. I was thinking like maybe some sort of mention of our existence or whatever would be acceptable.

This is just an idea I came up with. Hopefully, it'll be a good one.

That would probably be seen as bad netiquette. We've had people sign up here just to post a link to their site and ... well, they've never been seen. We delete such posts on sight. I wouldn't want us to go down the same route - word of mouth generates us about thirty new accounts every week (give or take). It also risks other people being aggrieved at us.

It's a good suggestion, but things along that line are likely to generate animosity from other sites.

Links from long term members of those communities are common enough, and those generate enough hits, but just signing up to promote? That's far too close to spam for comfort.

Thinking about it, if anyone was to try and mention us elsewhere, it would be good etiquette to ask the admin/moderating team there first.

Another board that I'm not doesn't allow links to other sites.

There IS a thread, however, that asks "What other boards are you on?" and you can mention, just not link to.
