  • Orientation forum - important information

I wasn't sure where to put this, but I wanted to make sure members read it.

There seems to be a misconception that only those with "official greeter" in their title, are allowed to welcome new members in the Orientation forum.

Anyone can welcome new members, and it is actually encouraged to foster a community spirit and make every member feel like they are valued.

A while ago, I was noticing that only one member was making an effort to post a welcome to every new member, so I asked the powers that be to give that member an "official greeter" status.

It's just a title to thank the member for taking a few seconds to simply say "hi," and let the new people know someone is reading.

I see so many new people who will make a post there, not get a response, and then leave.

Let's all work together to change that.

Hopping over there right now, Ree.

    I hope I don't scare anyone away.

I have been so bad about that lately, I must get my butt back over there and greet some of the new members!

I've been very bad about welcoming people, myself. (I think I am about 2 pages behind and only up to last July or August. )

Thanks guys, for offering to step up.

I made this post because, as I was trying to get caught up, I have read in several of the threads, where members are saying "I know I'm not an official greeter but..."

I would look at thread view counts vs replies, and there would be only 2 or 3 replies (if that) and 30 or more views.
That's when I knew there had been a huge misunderstanding of how that forum works.

          You're welcome.

I feel bad, because I never really took the time to take a look and offer my greetings. Now I do so and it makes me happy. I should've done this a long time ago.

I'd like to thank everyone who greets new members also.

I'll be honest- I'm terrible at greeting and remembering TO greet. That's not just here it's at all boards I'm a member of and has always been so.

It's not that I don't care- I just suck at it.

              I can completely understand.
As I said, I tend to fall behind quite regularly.

I'm not saying everybody has to welcome everybody in every post.
Just pop in every little while to see who's new and say hi.

The main reason for this thread was to clear up the confusion that only "official greeters" are allowed to greet.
