  • Publicationings for the readings of and makings of the monies.

This has probably been brought up before, but I was wondering if you've ever considered publishing a book with some of the more memorable stories from here? Not necessarily just war stories (although I'm sure many would be good candidates) but from all areas of the site.

Obviously things would need to be checked to make sure there are no references to people's names or actual companies, but I'm sure a book like "Customers Suck - Tales from retail and beyond" (insert better title as appropriate) would sell pretty well :P

It's definitely been at the back of my mind, as has the Berne convention on copyright. If someone wrote something, then it's their copyright, and even the disclaimer we have in the site rules wouldn't be enough to transfer copyright. In short, I'd need to approach everyone who's posted a tale I'd consider putting in there with a form for them to sign to transfer copyright or right to use the tale. Pain in the bum.

I do have other plans, but I can assure you that I don't move quickly. I'm halfway through my working week, and I've done a full day of overtime already. We've lost a few people at work and sick's at an all-time high, and I'm saving money as much as possible etc etc etc.

Others have suggested a donation system, but I believe in something for something, and time spent on a forum when it's free for everyone is too intangible. Also, it's paperwork. I take the philosophy that I run it as a hobby - if I ran it as a business, that would be two businesses I was running, and that's my stress levels.

The funny thing is I'm currently doing just that with my Sucky Customer experiences. Something along the lines of "this is what happened. Now this is how to deal with it" Kinda thing.
