  • Question-please answer!!!!

OK, so I can't think of any examples at the moment, but it seems that a lot of people here do not specifically name the place they work at. I think a few people have named the places they USED to work at, but it seems to me that people just give hints as opposed to outright naming their place of employment. Is there a rule against this, or are some people just afraid of bosses, co-workers, etc., finding out that they were bashing their employer? Any input (esp. from mods or admins) would be extremely helpful!!! Thanks!
PS: I've been working at a sting of restaurants and retail stores over the years (what can I say, I'm fickle) and I LOVE this site!!!! Where have you been all my life??? <----tears of joy

It's best not to name your place of employment because they may check this site if employees post here. As long as you feel safe about your old places of employment feel free, some actually have it in their names but for us, it's just a safety precaution.

Seeing as the company I work for is a large corporation, I guess I will take your advice and leave it nameless, ihatethenba...but I most certainly don't care if everyone knows that I used to work at Target and it was the most god-awful experience of my life!!!! I don't even know where to begin....you have been very helpful, ihatethenba, thanks for your advice!!!!!!

There's no rule against it, but it's not advisable.

Yes, as MadMike stated there is no rule about it but it could come to bite you later.

In my case, my employee handbooks were updated recently. There was a full page about discussing anything pertaining to work, co-workers, customers, and obviously company financial information in any internet blog, forum, chat..ect.

I had to sign this and hand this back to my manager. This is a relatively new job for me and as I love it very much, I chose to honor my handbook contract and I even removed any posts that would fall under even a gray shade of stepping out of those bounds. I actually think I can count on one hand the complaints I posted about my nice new job. It's extremely worker friendly and mostly stress-free. It's the best job I've ever had and I don't want to lose it, or the personal life I've gained back again from taking this job.

My old jobs now - THAT'S a whole 'nother ball game! I would rather have my cats complete with full sets of claws tap dance on my sunburned back than be forced to go back to any of my old jobs. And that's putting it lightly.

There are times I come home when I want to post about something or a co-irker. Today I *really* wanted to. But then I take a few minutes to calm down and think - it could be worse, I could still be working for music store hell, or B&N, or Borders... sometimes I'll re-read my old posts, shudder and then tell myself it really isn't bad at all.
If you are thinking to yourself, "Hmmm, should I post this?" it should probably go HERE.

There's a general culture of covering your bum when posting. Some people admit from the off where they work, often anonymous by the sheer numbers of staff working at their place of employment, but others (such as me) will just say the sort of things we do (wholefood wholesale).

Fact is, some companies do go around searching for posts by discontent employees, so it's a sensible safety precaution.

I work at Blockbuster! I am not afraid!

              MUAHAHAHA!!!!

(Okay, that was no secret to anyone who isn't a newbie...)

Seriously though- for most people it's best not to specifically mention your current place of employment. I'd advise against it.
