Must admit I think it's easier on the eye, however...
I pay for it, and since the car incident I'm still paying things off, and...
There's a major revision of VB coming, and it's going to need an update on the themes as well, so quite honestly anything I do is going to require updating en masse very shortly. I'm holding off on doing anything in the near future for that reason.
I installed the Stylish extension for SeaMonkey and now I've got CS looking... mostly like Fratching. Close enough my LCD doesn't hurt my eyes anymore at least. I copy/pasted the stylesheet from Fratching into Stylish.. took a little tweaking but it works well enough.

Okay, I can tell you from experience that having a dark and a light background to choose from on the same board causes nothing but trouble.
People fight over what color of text to use, the people who normally use colored fonts in their posts can't be seen by some people, at all, and you have to highlight their posts to read them. When you edit a post it sometimes changes from the standard color to actual black so the people using the dark background can't see it... blarg.
It's way more hassle than it's worth.
Unless you want a bunch of posts with people saying, "change your font color!" and "Why should I? you change your background!"
"I don't want any part of your crazy cult! I'm already a member of the public library and that's good enough for me, thanks!"
I like CS as it is, but if it changes, ill still be here.
Incidentally, anytime I get on Fratching @ work, someone asks me if im hacking into something...apparently it looks like hacker comps do in movies when theyre up to no good.
I've written up a bit of Firefox and Greasemonkey code to shut down the font color issues. If it's ever a problem, I'll post it somewhere for people to get at. The one user on Fratching who had pink posts (and me with the light background) suddenly became much more readable when I did that

So, you mean, I'd not have to highlight the posts to read them anymore?
(I also have a light background. I realize I don't post much here, or there, but I have a serious message board addiction and like to read, and can't read/see light text on a dark background easily)
That is it exactly. Thanks to that particular extension, I haven't noticed any off-color text on fratching at all. It's all black on a light background. It's quite nice
And this is why I turn off my colors in Firefox completely, on ANY board. Well, that, and sometimes it's hard to tell which links I've already clicked!
