  • classic stories?

Well, to be more precise, classic PFB/My3Cents etc.?

AFter it was pointed out to me, I realised that I'd posted a couple of very short, very old letters in the PFB section. I was wondering about the idea of a "classic PFB" section?

As in, we have certain letters that are re-opened for discussion, due to the number of new people on the board? There's some stuff there I would love to get my teeth into, so to speak.

I don't mean stuff like a certain member customer's letters, I mean stuff like "Manda" or the five-word letter.

I just wanted to throw it out there, see what happens?

Why not use the current PFB forum?

Because they're in there already, just old enough to be locked.

I think it's a decent idea, but I'm not sure how it'd work. I'll nudge Raps about it, see what falls out.

The idea was something a bit similar to the War Stories section, but with the letters being open for discussion.

Would a sticky in the forum where people could refer to tales be enough, or maybe a subforum for tales of legend? Either is easy enough.

Well, a sticky would get confusing once more than one was being talked about, since it'd be awkward to tell who was replying to who. How would we swing the subforum? People PM a mod, or report the thread, we move it to the subform, and unlock it? Is it possible to take auto-lock off one particular forum?

Ah, I misread, sorry. Thought she meant older, unposted letters. DD is working 60+ hour weeks til xmas, comprehension at all time low.

whatever works for you guys, I'm willing to go ahead with. Stickies might be good as a test run, to see if the idea will kick off. If we garner enough interest...maybe a full section like someone suggested for the NotAlwaysRight stories?

Auto Lock can be set to ignore certain forums. However, it works on last time anyone posted in there, so if nobody's posted in for six months is it actually that popular a thread?

But it's not popular threads we're after. It's old ones that people would like to comment on because it's just that kind of letter, but it's slipped their notice, or they joined after it locked.

Hmm, maybe just remove the auto-lock from the PFB section completely, since it can be, and then someone asks if they want a particular one unlocked, and a mod can do it? I don't forsee there being dozens or anything.

Actually, that might not be a bad idea for CIO either. That way if someone just stumbles upon something themselves, but it was already posted here a while ago, they don't need to make a new thread.

Hmm, one of the rationales behind the threadlock being six months and the CIO forum was that if it's not been posted in for six months then there's enough new people who haven't seen it, so post away again. Keep nudging me and I'll do something eventually, or something.
