  • I'm an 80's child!

Sadly, I identify with most of this list
You might be a child of the 80's if...

    "Poltergeist" totally freaked you out.
Indeed it did. My parents tell me when I was little, and music from that film would come on the TV or the radio, I would quickly leave the room.

You wanted to communicate with Synergy, or you wanted green hair like that lead singer of the Misfits.
What if I want jet-black hair like the singer of the real Misfits?

You inserted the word "like" into, like, every sentence.
I, like, still do, like, that.

You remember when Saturday Night Live was funny.
    Saturday Night Live was funny?

You were shocked and horrified at the Challenger explosion (which you were probably watching in school at the time).
Wasn't in school yet, don't remember seeing it live.

You owned a Jordache anything, or you remember when Jordache jeans were cool.
I once had a pair of Jordache high tops.

You can remember watching Full House and Saved by the Bell for endless hours.
I have a T-shirt that says "Bayside High" on it. It's a great conversation starter.

You ever wore fluorescent—neon if you will—clothing...
    Guilty!

You have ever pondered why Smurfette was the ONLY female smurf
Nowadays I ponder how Smurfette never ended up with VD.

Oooh, yeah, metal (and wood) playgrounds. In RI there used to be this awesome, HUGE all-wood playground right off one of the main roads. Right next to a cemetery (I always found that morbidly amusing). Yeah, I got a few splinters, but damn was that thing fun.

Now there's some dinky molded plastic thing on the same spot that takes up about a tenth of the land the old one did.
        * You ever wore fluorescent—neon if you will—clothing...
For a time, there were photos of me in pseudo-surfer clothing (WTF was I thinking...wait, it was the 80's, I wasn't). I haven't seen them in awhile so I can only hope they got "lost".
        * You know who Max Headroom is.
Even my dad is mildly surprised that I know this.
        * You wanted to be The Hulk or Rainbow Brite for Halloween.
        What, no Captain Power?

You can remember what Michael Jackson looked like before his nose fell off. Or even when he had those freaky eyes in "Thriller" at the end of the video.
Yes, kids, Michael Jackson was once a black man.

You have seen at least 10 episodes of Fraggle Rock.
          Guilty as charged.

You ever wore fluorescent—neon if you will—clothing...
          Hey, it was cool!! LOL

You know who Max Headroom is.
Bonus points if you watched the short-lived Max Headroom series, like me.

You remember when ATARI was a state-of-the-art video gaming system.
          Space Invaders rocked!!

          "Poltergeist" totally freaked you out.
          Oh yeah! That clown! *shudder*

You had a crush on one of the Coreys (Haim or Feldman).
Corey Haim was cute. He looks like absolute hell now.

You remember when Saturday Night Live was funny.
          Otay!!

Songs by Debbie Gibson still haunt you to this day.
          That's because she SUCKED!!!!

You remember "Friday Night Videos" before the days of MTV.
Bonus points if you also remember "Radio 1990". Or am I the only one?

You were shocked and horrified at the Challenger explosion (which you were probably watching in school at the time).
I was home sick from school that day. My dad called and told that the Space Shuttle exploded and I didn't believe him.

You ever dressed to emulate a person you saw in either a Duran Duran, Madonna, or Cyndi Lauper video.
          All three. *blush*

The phrase "Where's the beef?" still doubles you over with laughter.
Bonus points if you know the name of the actress who said that phrase.

You HAD to have your MTV
I remember when MTV actually played music videos!!

You remember when Madonna was just hitting the scene.
Yes, kids, there was a time before Madonna. I remember watching the "Borderline" video and not knowing who the hell Madonna was.

You remember any or all of the following: Echo & the Bunnymen, Cutting Crew, Scritti Politti, or Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark.
I remember all of them. *sigh*

You actually know who Rick Springfield is
Hey, Rick Springfield had some good songs!!

You jammed to the Miami Vice theme and thought Jan Hammer was cool.
I have the Miami Vice theme on my playlist.

          I love the 80's!!!

This is sad, I'm only 19 and I still identify with a lot of that stuff...

Went to see Return of the Jedi a few times.

..You played outside but had to be home when the street lights came on.
Hah! playtime wasn't over 'til someone went home crying

My first was a '79 Z28, and that was in '97.
..Speaking of metal thats what school playground equipment was made of. Not plastic, the ground had some grass if you were lucky. It was easy to crush, cut, bang, bruise and break your body. BACK THEN THIS WAS called learning your limitations and was not ground to sue the school.

              He didn't?

              ..The whole "New" Coke thing.
I kinda liked it. But also liked Crystal and Blue Pepsi.

.. You remeber someone saying CD's were just a fad.
I remember when laserdisks were supposed to replace VHS.

..Arcades were filled with machines that at one time was 20 Ateroid machine and 20 Space Invaders and 50 Pac-man machines.
I remember when there actually were arcades around.

.. The Dukes of Hazzard, Beverly Hilbillies, Charlies angels, Mission Impossible, Bewhitched, The fugitive, and Batman, were TV shows only.
              They should've stayed that way.

              ..Pop Rocks and coke=Dead.
I tried that on a dare, so I knew for the longest time that it was a myth.

I'm gonna pick at you for the fun of it. The word is "grammar."

                  *ducks to avoid flying tomatoes*

On topic- I was a little kid in the 80's.
-I miss a lot of those cartoons and kid's shows. When it came to Jem, I always wanted to be a Misfit! "We are the Misfits, our songs are better! We are the Misfits, the Misfits! And we're gonna get her!"
-I absolutely wanted to be a Goonie.
                  -Who didn't have neon clothes?
-The shirt clip things were cool.
-I had enough slap bracelets to fill my arms
-C'mon, you guys didn't like "Opposites Attract?"
-I personally like the Star Wars Ewok Adventure
-My town actually had a roller skating rink- with an arcade- and if you wore neon clothes on Friday you got a free glow stick
-I dreamed I met Rainbow Brite
-He-Man and She-Ra were my biggest heroes
-The playgrounds were actually dangerous and fun and we didn't sue the school when we got hurt
-Disney made the only animated movies worth watching in the theater
                  -MY LITTLE PONIES!
-Puff paint was a favorite past-time
-anyone else ever rigged the cable to get The New Kids On The Block concert on PPV?

Hehe. I'll stop there for now
I will not shove “it” up my backside. I do not know what “it” is, but in my many years on this earth I have figured out that that particular port hole is best reserved for emergency exit only. -GK

Yeah, in real life the Misfits would've kicked Hologram arse any day! A couple of years ago, they came out with the Jem cartoons on DVD, and I'm still kicking myself for not buying a copy.
