Confirmed Matches
- Main Event Championship Bout! - Grand Champion of Chikara Eddie Kingston defends vs Icarus
Icarus is a Chikara Gen-1 Original, being one of the original graduating class of the Chikara Wrestle Factory. He's been with the company literally since day one, and his career has been a storied one here. A former Campeon de Parejas (tag team champion) with Gran Akuma in F.I.S.T., a former King of Trios champion with Akuma & Chuck Taylor in F.I.S.T., a former Torneo Cibernetico champion (in 2006), and a veteran of three separate Lucha de Apuestas (which, granted, he all lost). He's very accomplished in the ring, not particularly fancy, but a solid workhorse. He's also one of the most hated wrestlers on the roster, as his mere presence instantly draws jeers and boos from the Chikarmy, not the least because of his horrendous back tattoo.
Director of Fun Wink Vavasseur declared earlier this year that the Grand Championship of Chikara would be defended on every card henceforth, but this was clearly aimed at getting the championship away from Eddie Kingston, who won the title at "High Noon" at the end of 2011, and has been doggedly defending the title nearly every month. However, after a mental breakdown of sorts toward the end of March and a torn tendon in his hand prevented Kingston from defending the title that month, Wink instituted the new ruling. Wink has been quite clear that he does not like Kingston or the fact that he's representing the company. Kingston, despite multiple nagging injuries and his volatile mental/emotional state, refuses to quit and is still very capable of holding his own.
An interesting wrinkle to this match, however, is the slow turning of alignments for both men. Icarus is in the middle of a slow-burn tecnico (face) turn, courtesy of Sugar Dunkerton. When Sugar was added to F.I.S.T. last year, Icarus was the only one who tolerated his presence, and the two formed a tag team that slowly started to gel, though Sugar would have no truck with F.I.S.T.'s cheating ways. Icarus even defended Sugar against Taylor & Gargano's ire, but things fell apart earlier this month, when a fed-up Gargano quit F.I.S.T. (and then Chikara) over everything, and then Sugar-- frustrated after Icarus cost him a match due to his (well-meaning) interference-- declared himself a free agent, promptly getting fired by Wink Vavasseur. Icarus, wanting someone in his corner, reached out to his childhood hero, Marty Jannetty, to be there for him. Kingston, meanwhile, is feeling the pressure of his title reign, and many fans are starting to get critical of it as well, saying it has gone on too long. The backlash his no-show caused in March only turned more fans against him, and King has been getting a lot angrier and prone to lashing out because of it. It's not unlikely that the two will complete their respective tecnico/rudo turns in the match. - Two out of Three Falls Title Contest! - Campeones de Parejas 3.0 defend vs. The Pieces of Hate
At the start of 2013, 3.0-- Shane Matthews & Scott "Jagged" Parker-- finally made it back to the "promised land" and won the Chikara Campeonatos de Parejas (tag team championship). Their 1st reign in 2012 lasted barely a month and they lost the titles in their first defense back to the team they'd beaten to win the titles, F.I.S.T.'s Chuck Taylor & Johnny Gargano. After recovering from some injuries and fighting their way back to the top, the charismatic Canadian duo defeated the Young Bucks' Matt & Nick Jackson-- one of the best tag teams on the independent scene-- to bring the championships back home to Chikara. They even overcame the seemingly unstoppable juggernauts of the Devastation Corporation to retain the titles in their first defense.
Now they get set to face The Pieces of Hate-- Jigsaw & The Shard. Jigsaw, a Chikara Gen-1 Original, is the most decorated member of the roster, having won the Young Lions Cup, King of Trios, Torneo Cibernetico, Campeonatos de Parejas, and now the Tag World Grand Prix. Jigsaw, now 'out of the shadow' of his former mentor Mike Quackenbush, is greedy for glory and willing to do anything to get it. Now serving as the mentor and partner to former GEKIDO member The Shard, the rule-breaking tandem also beat the Young Bucks in the TWGP finals two weeks prior to get this title shot. Jigsaw wants to prove he doesn't need Quack to be a success, and nothing could prove that more than by winning the Campeonatos with his "dream team" with The Shard. - In a Sarcophagus Match! - Amasis vs Ophidian
In 2007, the tag-team of Amasis & Ophidian-- The Osirian Portal-- arrived in Chikara. Time-traveling warriors from ancient Egypt, 'The Funky Pharaoh' and the 'Serpent from the Nile' very quickly impressed fans with their talent and despite their rudo alignment, kept amassing more and more fan support until they turned tecnico in 2010 to help fight the threat of the BDK. In 2011, when the "12 Large: Summit" tournament was announced to crown the first Grand Champion of Chikara, Amasis was chosen to represent the Portal. Alas, before he could compete in his first tournament match, he was injured quite badly in a car accident. Ophidian won the vote to replace him in the tournament (beating out Wink Vavasseur-favored Hieracon), but lost every single match, sending him down a spiral of despair. At "High Noon," when Amasis came out to confirm his retirement in an emotional speech, Ophidian turned on him, spraying venom in his eyes and beating him before stripping him of his mask.
Thus began Ophidian's "transformation." After defeating Hieracon and taking his mask as well, Ophidian claimed to have stolen their souls, which spoke to him. Deranged and unhinged, Ophidian underwent a mystical metamorphosis, in which he incorporated the stolen souls of Amasis & Hieracon into himself as the 'Snake Spirit.' However, more losses left him adrift, which is when he was taken in by Delirious & The Batiri, becoming their "cobra commander." He led the Batiri into battle at "Under the Hood" at the end of 2012, which is when the specter of his past came back to haunt him-- Amasis had returned!
Amasis revealed that, due to Ophidian's betrayal, he was unable to journey to the afterlife that befits a Pharaoh, and was sent back by the Deities as their Madjai warrior to seek his vengeance. Though he was denied his revenge at WrestleCon in April, Amasis let Ophidian choose the time and place, and so the serpent chose "Aniversario: Never Compromise." Amasis will have to beware the interference of the Batiri, who have been doing their utmost to keep him at bay, not to mention the unpredictable Delirious, who may yet surface to guide his army.
As of May 17, this match has been revealed to be a "Sarcophagus Match," which is an Egyptian-themed casket match. In order to win, the victor must throw his opponent into the sarcophagus and shut the lid. - A Three-on-Three Throwdown! - The Colony vs The Devastation Corporation
When you discuss fan-favorite teams in Chikara, the first team that comes to mind is The Colony. The line-up has changed somewhat over the years, but the current "new and improved" iteration of Fire Ant, Green Ant, and assailANT has been gelling after being thrown together due to Wink Vavasseur's Chikarabermetrics. assailANT has abandoned most of his rudo ways and embraced the fans, and his exuberance has paid dividends, allowing him to serve as the Colony's "ANT-forcer." Fire Ant is an energetic competitor and a former Young Lions Cup champion. Green Ant is a former YLC contender and Grand Championship contender, and his submission skills are to be feared-- he even made 'The Master of 1000 Holds' Mike Quackenbush tap out! They are a team to be reckoned with, there is no doubt of this.
Enter Sidney Bakabella, a greasy manager who is a complete throwback to the likes of Paul Ellering or Bobby Heenan. Locked in the 80s and the "territory era," Bakabella is the manager of the Devastation Corporation. The fearsome duo of Max Smashmaster & Blaster McMassive first debuted in a big way at "King of Trios 2012, Night 3," during the Tag Team Gauntlet, where they overcame four teams-- two pairs of scrubs, 'Knight Eye For The Pirate Guy' (Jolly Roger & Lance Steel), and the Colony's Fire Ant & Green Ant-- in short order. (Though the Colony had just finished a long match before D-Corp's arrival.) Devastation Corp. has been dominant in every match they've had, and they only lost their tag title shot against 3.0 because 3.0 used their agility and leverage to score the deciding falls. Devastation Corp. has been feuding with Colony off and on in Chikara since the start of the year, and more prominently in Chikara's "feeder promotion" Wrestling Is Fun!, and now a third member has surfaced. Flex Rumblecrunch first made an appearance at the "Under the Hood" iPPV, but did not remove his helmet or do anything. He disappeared until "Tag World Grand Prix 2013," where he joined Max & Blaster in destroying the Colony on the outside of the ring, causing both teams to be eliminated via count-out.
Now these two trios are set to collide at "Never Compromise," and it's sure to be a war. Bakabella's team has the size and power advantage, but they should not count out the Colony's ingenuity and teamwork. - Mandated by the Director: Hair vs Hair Match! - Tim Donst vs Gavin Loudspeaker
Tim Donst used to be a man overflowing with confidence, who called himself the "Greatest Young Lions Cup Champion EVER," until last year at "Chikarasaurus Rex: How to Hatch a Dinosaur," when he lost a Lucha de Apuesta against Hallowicked, causing him to get his head shaved. This loss sent Donst spiraling down, shattering his self-esteem and leading him to a very dark place. He sabotaged his partner and protege, Jakob Hammermeier, in Jakob's efforts to become Young Lions Cup champion, verbally and physically and emotionally abusing him at every turn. Donst seemed poised to take the Grand Championship of Chikara from Eddie Kingston at "Under the Hood" last year, but lost that match as well. Now Donst has been attracting other 'misfits' to himself, from former Mr. Touchdown cheerleader Veronica to the enthusiastic autistic Steve 'The Turtle' Weiner, while abusing and shunning Jakob, including an uncomfortable-to-watch head-shaving in the middle of the ring.
Donst's treatment of his followers, particularly Jakob, hasn't gone unnoticed by Chikara's "Rock & Roll Ring Announcer," Gavin Loudspeaker. (Some fans might recognize him as Kaiju Big Battel's Louden Noxious.) Gavin, in recent months, has tried to reach out to Jakob, and been very vocally critical of Donst's attitude toward him, which led to Donst attacking him and cutting out chunks of his hair. The bullying continued earlier this month, when Donst and his followers taped him up and locked him in a closet. Gavin took his criticisms even more public, using Chikara's "Podcast-a-Go-Go" to air some of his grievances, as well as some blog posts on ChikaraPro.com. His words were pretty critical of Wink Vavasseur, as well, which infuriated Wink, who put the blame for the attacks on Gavin, and when Gavin continued to criticize Wink, the petty tyrant booked Gavin to face Donst live on iPPV.
Gavin Loudspeaker is not a trained wrestler. He is a musician and ring announcer, and he is very much in fear for his life against the deranged Donst and his followers. Many fans are hoping that we'll see Jakob Hammermeier finally stand up to Donst, but it remains to be seen if this will be so. A new wrinkle to the match is that it is now Hair vs Hair! Given Donst's recent activities-- shaving Jakob's head in the ring and cutting off locks of Gavin's hair (and then EATING them-- eww)-- this makes sense. What makes that interesting is this match will be literally one year to the day after Donst's last Lucha de Apuesta in which he lost his hair, the same match that sparked his downward spiral. - Grudge Match! - Dasher Hatfield vs Delirious
In the season premiere, Dasher Hatfield shocked the world when he defeated Delirious-- the Overlord of the Batiri-- in less than a minute with a roll-up. Delirious and the Batiri immediately served him a beating for daring to accomplish such a feat, an act that has stewed in the back of Dasher's head for a while now. In the early part of the season, Dasher was more concerned with trying to score points for title contendership with Mr. Touchdown, before being sidelined for a couple of months with broken ribs at the hands of the Devastation Corporation.
Now the 'Old Timey King of Swing' is off the DL and ready for action again, and he's looking to put a stop to Delirious' bullying ways, to settle the score from the season premiere and prove that his victory was not a fluke. He will obviously need to be wary of the presence of the rest of the Batiri in the match, as they will doubtless try to help their Overlord Delirious pick up the win. - The Battle for Trios Supremacy! - The Spectral Envoy vs The Colony: Xtreme Force
Wink Vavasseur claims to be a business expert. (Savvy Chikara fans know that he was given Chikara to run by his father, Conrad Vavasseur, of the Titor Conglomerate, as a way to keep his "screwup son" Wink out of trouble.) After looking at the "success" of his nonsensical Chikarabermetrics system in 2012, and the merchandise sales of the Chikara wrestlers, he decided to cash in on the hottest-selling team in Chikara, The Colony, by giving the isolated Soldier Ant (shunted out of the Colony due to Chikarabermetrics, and disgusted with Colony knockoffs The Swarm) his own team to captain. That team? The Colony: Xtreme Force!
The three new ants-- Arctic Rescue Ant, Orbit Adventure Ant, and Missile Assault Ant-- come with their own set of accessories and "totally radical" moves (such as Arctic Rescue Ant's "2Radical MegaAir Tailbone Slammer: Xtreme" -- a top-rope leg-drop) and extreme (or "xtreme") enthusiasm for themselves. However, they refused to listen to Soldier Ant's commands and let him do all the work, even proving willing to break and bend the rules to win. Wink Vavasseur was so impressed with his creations that he retroactively declared them the 2011 King of Trios Champions. This, coupled with CXF's tactics, so offended Soldier Ant that he immediately resigned from Chikara for good.
The Spectral Envoy-- UltraMantis Black, Hallowicked, and Frightmare-- are 2012's King of Trios Champions, and at WrestleCon in April, the CXF's Missile Assault Ant unmasked Frightmare before pinning him. This enraged 'Mantis and 'Wicked, who declared war on this new trio. No one's sure how much experience the CXF has amongst themselves, but they have a new leader in the former Swarm member deviANT, who led them to victory earlier this month. The Envoy will have to be wary of the Colony: Xtreme Force's tricks. - A Young Lions Cup Rematch! - Mr. Touchdown defends vs Saturyne
Every year, Chikara hosts the Young Lions Cup tournament, so wrestlers under the age of 25 can show their talent and skill. The winner gets a trophy which can be defended against anyone who meets the age requirements, until the next tournament, when their claims to the championship are vacated. Last year in August, the Young Lions Cup X winner was "Mr. Touchdown" Mark Angelosetti, who hasn't let anyone forget it since. He's defended the Cup successfully four times since then, including once already against his challenger at "Aniversario: Never Compromise."
Saturyne, the "Intergalactic Luchadora," is a fast-paced, high-flying competitor with incredible agility and flexibility, which has served her well in the past. She's improved markedly since her debut, and hopes to become the first "Young Lioness Cup" champion. Mr. Touchdown is no slouch as a competitor, however, and will have the power and size advantage, not to mention confidence, since he's beaten Saturyne once already. A possible wrinkle to the match will be Mr. Touchdown's tag partner, and "step-cousin-in-law" Dasher Hatfield. Hatfield, an all-around nice guy and good sportsman, has tagged with Saturyne in the past as well, though he puts family ahead of a lot of things. It remains to be seen if he'll try to curtail Touchdown's unnecessarily rough tactics against a lady, or if he'll cheer him on to victory.
