Walmart worker fired for reporting a dog in a truck.
Reading the actual story makes it even more incredible.
* She wasn't even on duty or in uniform; she saw the dog left in the truck and called the police.
* Management had no reason IMO to get involved; she wasn't on duty so it was a matter between her, the police and the idiot who left the animal in the vehicle.
* It's not her job to confront said idiot in the first place; unless the dog is in dire circumstances (at which point you should just break the window), calling the police IS the proper thing to do.
* She had previously gone to management about a dog in a vehicle, and they'd done nothing at the time; but they still said she should have gone to them first.
The idiot even did the classic "I'm never shopping here again" line apparently. *sigh* I wish stores would realize that 'threat' holds as much water as a leaky sieve.
With the press this story is starting to generate, I'm sure she'll be hired back eventually, if she still wants the job; but I'd expect her to be terminated for BS reasons later on. Ugh.
Locally, the SPCA and animal protection groups have been running radio ads reminding people to leave the pet at home when you go out; how a car can get unbearably hot REALLY quickly, and cracking the windows isn't enough. And that you should call them (at a 1-800 number) OR call the Police if you notice an animal at risk.
