Pretty much what the title says. They picked the 12th Doctor.

the guy could play the original series Master.

If they wanted that "look" why not pick Billy Connoly or perhaps John Cleese??

OMG that's EXACTLY what I thought when I first saw him.

Then I found out I'd seen him before in the series:
[spoilers!] (For those who still don't wanna know who the new Who is)
He played "Caecilius" in "The Fires of Pompeii". He was the marble merchant who acquired the TARDIS as an art-piece. Looks like he's getting it for reals now.

And notably, that's the same episode where Karen Gillan played "The Soothsayer". Bit ironic that.

I dunno if I could take Billy though... I'd be too tempted to recite the Boondock Saints prayer whenever I saw him. Either that or I'd think of him as Fido the Zombie.
