  • This needs to happen more often!

A mall store's staff got fed up with the way they were being treated by the store owner, and they all quit in grand fashion!

As I said in the title, this needs to happen more often, because more than likely the owner got fined too.

I'm sure it won't be long before this shows up on Consumerist. They love this kind of stuff.

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

Since when is CHEMO appointments for your CANCER NOT an excuse to miss work! I would have been right with them. The distract manager has lost it!

"Cancer isn't an excuse"?! I hope the head office learns of this and fires this heartless DM pronto!

I do not blame the workers for quitting at all. Quitting en masse, with a big sign taped to the front gate, letting the whole world know what the DM did...priceless.

            1. I have to say I disagree with "this needs to happen more often" because it means some poor retail slave somewhere has been put through a lot of horrific abuse. Honestly, it takes a lot to make a person quit in such a public manner as that.

            2. But they obviously should stand up for themselves against such abuses.

            3. Betcha this district manager is not fazed a bit by this mass quit. There are lots of teenagers and young adults who would jump at the chance to work in a cool, trendy store like Journey's.

            4. Don't think I will be doing business with Journey's any more. Zappos has everything they have.

            5. Once again I must point out that The Onion isn't always fictional.

SLANDER! Nope, sorry. With 3 people backing the yelling and such up, good luck with that.

YOU'LL NEVER WORK AGAIN. Nope. I'm sure they're all great employees who will be hired on by some more UNDERSTANDING bosses.

And I'd bet that store won't last much longer. With a rep like that even teens needing a buck will be warned away by parents...who will also avoid the store because of things like this.

                Heres what someone posted:

Ok guys so I called my girlfriend to get this story straight, and it's crazier than I originally stated. Apparently this started at another local mall first. The District Manager set a rule that all managers and co-managers must work open to close all week and they get one day off that the district manager gets to pick. Well, one manager at the other store has cancer, and had her chemo appointments setup ahead of time and her 40 hours for that week were already set. The district manager said that she had to change her hours but, given that her appointments were set she couldn't change them. This is when the DM said "cancer isn't an excuse."
EDIT: From what I read, there seems to be NOTHING but horror stories from this chain...

Egad, that reminds me of one of my mother's former ASMs in her Office Supply Hell. A coworker had to take a leave of absence because a relative had been KILLED. Not just died, but KILLED. The ASM told the employee, "[Store] needs at least two weeks' notice of a death to allow you to leave." Employee got her bereavement time and pay, now that ASM is at another store. Still, though, yeah, I'm TOTALLY planning ahead two weeks that my relative is getting killed, not suspicious sounding at ALL... Good on those employees, some nice public humiliation goes a LONG way
                  Look, a signature!

If every cashier in the world went on strike, retail would come to a screeching halt, even if for a couple hours.

                    Here's another take.

Sadly this comment is Corptulu's most likely reaction:
"Corporate” will do two things…look at his P&L, and –if it is good– they’ll hand him a mirror and tell him to hire the next three scrubs that walk by and can fog it up.
So many managers think their employees are interchangeable.

                    Journey's comment.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

Can't believe no one mentioned that error yet. If everything so far is true, the DM probably is in fort a law suit for discriminating against someone with health issues.

Probably what they meant was payroll. Every article or example of this with comments has a rogues gallery of people pointing the error out :P

A couple of small places I worked for called the payroll the roll. One place did have a chick that referred to the roster as the roll tho.
