$1250/hour for private tutoring. And I thought my rates were high.

I do have the degrees. And a background in education. The company they named is based out of London, England though. I'm actually digging around to find out if there's a similar placement company on this side of the pond. I'd not really considered full time private tutoring for a single family. I honestly didn't realize that private tutors in that environment could make that much money. It's worth looking into.

One of my neighbors gets 15 a hour for tutoring elementary aged kids. I know some teachers that get 25-35 a hour during the off season. One of the football coaches at my high school made 50 bucks a kid in a group of up to six for a two hour ten minuet long study session.
For a single student I get $75/hour for high school or undergraduate students that come to me or within 15 miles of my house. I get an additional $5 for every 10 miles I must drive (one direction) over the first 15 miles. I add $25/hr to my base rate for each additional student up to groups of 4. For middle school students my base rate drops to $60/hr and for graduate students it goes up to $100. Professional students (students studying for professional exams of various sorts) are assessed based on the level of math required, but are generally at the same rate as HS/Undergrad.
I'm not cheap, but I'm very good at what I do, and my rates aren't out of line for somebody with my qualifications in my city. At the moment, I'm not actually working very much, but that has more to do with my personal situation (not wanting to be tied to Florida, though that might change soon) than not being able to find students.

Not bad on the rates and I bet in your city your thought of as a ultimate steal. In my neck of the woods you would be at the top end and I know in some areas you would be laughed at as too cheap A few cities in Washington state...
My iPhone is making me look stupid...I can't keep up with some of its changes. It wanted to change steal to steak.
I could probably get away with charging more. Some people with my qualifications get up to $125/hour for a single student, but I feel that my rates are fair. If I ever got to the point where I needed to turn students away, I would up my rates.
For now, I need to decide where I actually want to live. I have an interesting job offer in Key West, but the idea of living 4 hours away from the nearest hospital that can treat my boys' bone condition isn't appealing. Plus, if I lived that close to Jester, I'd never be sober, and that might not be a good thing. Or maybe it would be...
I actually want to move to Boston or San Diego (San Diego being my first choice) in order to get my boys with specific surgeons who are experts with their condition. The nice thing about tutoring is that if I get serious about it, I know I can support myself, as I am good at what I do. My teaching specialty is with students who Just Don't Get Math, or have math anxiety issues and/or a history of failure. I have a damned good track record, so wherever I decide to go, I can hit the pavement looking for students and do reasonably well. Around here, my phone rings randomly from time to time just from word of mouth, so if I ever bothered to advertise, I'd be set.

I remember my Mom paid $35/hour for my calculus and physics tutoring - worth every penny - I was struggling and after working with her, I went from a D to a B average.
The large print giveth, and the small print taketh away.
