In general - Keep in mind that best guess for this is 2017. If you plan to buy a PS4 for this, wait until then. I'm sure it'll drop by at least $100 by then, if not 150 or better.
FF7 is a decent JRPG but that's as far as I'll give it...can we PLEASE stop acting like it's the pinnacle that can never be achieved again?
It was a big deal at the time because it was one of the first good "3-D view" console games...which, unfortunately, means that it was also a major contributing factor in the deluge of shitty 3-D view games to follow, accounting for many of the bad games during the PSX console generation in general. Put simply, game manufacturers didn't see "Sequel to one of the best-selling franchises of all time that happened to be in 3D," which it was -- They saw "3D game with pretty cutscenes that sold incredibly well," instead. Hell, I would argue that the FF franchise has suffered as a result, as well.
This is something that people have legitimately been begging SE for for a very, very long time, and it WILL sell a bunch of consoles. Personally, I feel that FFIV and FFVI are significantly better games than FFVII. Now they just need to properly update Chrono Trigger...>_>
I HOPE that they put a great deal of effort into fixing the things that were wrong with it, despite knowing that they likely will have at least a million guaranteed sales, no matter what. This is their chance to make up for some of their shadier decisions as of late (such as their overpriced, DLC-infested mobile games). I'm not gonna say that they'll be hurting if they don't do this one right, but it could be the first major nail in Final Fantasy's coffin if they screw this one up, somehow.
