    Researchers have patented a new variety of red seaweed that, when properly cooked, tastes a lot like bacon. It's also apparently pretty good for you.

      Heh. Not sure if this stuff is actually a kale variant per se or not (it just sounded funny ); it's still seaweed, though -- and kale (along with related plants) has been getting some backlash, itself as of late.
