I absolutely disagree about not tipping doesn't correct bad service, if it was a case as mentioned in the article - stuff that's beyond the person's control - then by all means tip and speak to the manager about how it, also praising the person who tried their best.
If the poor service was because of poor attitude/talking to others/not paying attention, then don't tip AND talk to the manager...that will definitely correct bad service.
I will not shove “it” up my backside. I do not know what “it” is, but in my many years on this earth I have figured out that that particular port hole is best reserved for emergency exit only. -GK
On the other hand, some people are just obtuse and don't learn. I've know people thick enough to think that not getting a tip meant the customer sucked, not that they did something wrong. Speaking with management and letting them know exactly what was wrong will give them a chance to address the issue.
