  • props to the people who returned the money

    http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=649001

A gas station was robbed of $8000 in cash. I'm sorry; they DESERVED to be roobed if they keep that much cash on hand. And I can feel free to say that: I was robbed...twice...in exactly 3 weeks between robberies.

In all the gas stations I've worked in (5 in all), we've NEVER had that much cash on hand. Whatever cash we do have is locked in the safe, and taken to the bank ASAP.
    I'm bringing disdain back...with a vengeance.

Oh, and your tool box called...you got out again.

    The mother and son rock.

And for the gas station to keep that much money...in such a neighborhood...

Note that the also said "Deposit Slips", which is how they found the owner. Its quite possible that the manager was getting the deposit ready when they were robbed, or he might be just about to leave with the cash, etc. I doubt that they would have that much in the register.

Wow, what great and honest people. Kudos to them.

Honestly, I would find it very hard to turn in that money given the state of my finances right now. But I think I would be more afraid of what would happen if the cops found me with it and I would feel way guilty for keeping stuff that's not mine.

Plaid, I'm not saying that there isn't a chance that they weren't taking it to the bank, I was thinking more along the lines of, the most my store ever deposited at one time was $4000, and that was after a VERY busy weekend, with a huge lottery jackpot and a huge concert in town (we are the first station off the freeway, so we are always slammed).

Plus, that is a VERY bad neighborhood, and I'd be leery of running a bank deposit of $1000, much less 8 times that much.

But like I said, props to the nice people for turning the money in.

Good job for the people turning it in, BUT..

Wouldn't the station have insurance that covers this? So they get back the money, minus a "deductible". So, it's quite possible that he's getting the money back twice now...

As for $8000, I'll agree. That's rather high for a gas station. The only time gas stations near here see that much is when a hurricane is coming, and that is if they don't run out of gas.

o_O Oh. I see. I'm so use to our deposit, which is easily 9000+ dollars on most days, (Which means two or more trips because corp says no more then 10000 dollars in single deposit). That I kinda expected that gas stations would do more.

If the money's recovered, the amount they were given has to be repaid or they face charges of insurance fraud.

Considering that this is now a news item, they can't claim the money is still gone.
