It's one thing to serve a drunk guy shots of water. In that case, I'd assume he was quite aggressive about getting more alcohol, and it was safer just to serve the water than to refuse service. But cleaner? That's not cool.

He could've been poisoned! How could that possibly be considered a joke?! This was malicious.

I could see giving him some nasty drink, like a shot of straight lemon juice or something like that, as a joke. (Hell, I would do that and think it was quite funny, but that's why I'm not a bartender.) But not something POISONOUS.

Are we the only ones left with a DUH filter in our brains?

It's akin to having a sucky customer getting stabbed with a jagged bottle. Plenty of us dream of it, but only a criminal follows through. Some things cannot be apologized for, or taken back. That woman belongs in jail.
