Considering they thought their magic brownie stash was worth saving I'm not that surprised. I'm disapointed in them and hope the state takes away their kid privelages but not surprised.

I suspect this was an attempt to get rid of the responsibilities of having a child. They saw an opportunity and tried to take it.

This kind of reminds me of the Reno 911! episode where Junior went into a burning building and rescued a dog, and then the fire department went in and rescued a baby.
So Junior, feeling defeated, put the dog down and it ran back into the building.
