  • Dont want to pay the price just ask for a discount! (SC making article)

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071001/...P5l1twRuYDW7oF

Kinda reminds me of those home depot commercials where they show how much their associates want to answer your questions even when you arent at work. Reasonable people will read this article and understand what they are saying but just think of what the SCs get out of it....Better yet if you dont get the answer you want go up the chain of command!! Its a managers job after all to reprimand that pesky employee for not breaking the rules for you...

      Quoth Fucktard Article
But he said asking for a lower price on items that are blemished, on clearance or have a short shelf life is a good strategy.

"What's the worst thing that could happen? Somebody says no." he said.
Wrong. The worst that could happen, in the hands of SC's is that the cops end up getting called and said SC taken to jail after several attacks on employees for "not following the law that it says in this article".

I hate how it says "more than 90 percent................. got at least one discount over the course of three years." You know any idiot who reads this will see "more than 90% of the time they'll give you a discount".

Also, "blemished" items often become so due to the SC deliberately looking for a discount, e.g. dented cans and the like.

Anyone who gives out haggling advice in the United States had better be really fucking upfront about it: 99% of the time you will not get any discount, and the remaining 1% of the time you will get a very small, reasonable discount on something that the store has been struggling to sell. That translates into asking for a discount on every purchase for three years, and eventually getting ONE, just one, out of three years of shopping. Good job, asshole, you'd probably have saved more if you just bought everything at the normal price, due to price errors or cashier mistakes. Once you start trying to "negotiate" (read: "YOU HAVE TO GIVE ME A BETTER PRICE IT'S THE LAW!") you will find cashiers being very precise, and occasionally will incur a moron tax. Over the course of three years, it's just not worth the headache and the moron taxes will more than equal the amount you saved by haggling that one time that it worked.

It's funny, every time I walk past someone saying that the markup on game consoles is really big and we make a huge profit on them, it takes me all the strength I can muster not to drop on the floor and kill myself laughing.

(for the record, the markup on the consoles? At best, 3 cents.

Marks said one of the keys to successful haggling is approach.

"You can't bully people into giving you a lower price," he said. "You have to be diplomatic."
Judging by the stories on this site.........that ain't gonna happen.

I hate it when people try and negotiate with me.

Customer: What's the price on this laptop?
            Me: *pointing to sign* $849.99
Customer: No, what's the real price on it?
Me: *pointing to the sign again* $849.99
Customer: No, not that price. The real price!!
            Me: OH! Ahh... I got'cha!! *grin* $999.99... it's on sale for $849.99
Customer: I want the price that you pay for it.
Me: Oh!!!!!... $849.99. (we don't get much of a discount on laptops)
            Customer: You're impossible!
Me: Have a great day sir!

If a customer asks to speak to a manager about the price, I always specifically ask for the manager that I know will say no. I'm just a bastard that way.

A moron tax is a mostly imaginary tax imposed on people who are annoying, abusive, stupid or just plain rude.

In some places, mostly smaller individually owned stores, cashiers have more leeway to give discounts and such that are not advertised--Like giving a 10% discount if you spend more than $100. The piercing place I used to get my earrings would do that for me---because I spent a lot of money there and was always really cool to them. They gave it to me just because they wanted to.

If someone is giving the cashier an extra big helping of SC, the cashier may 'forget' to give them this kind of discount, or may 'forget' to offer them some promotion they've got that the customer doesn't know about. This can also translate into a moron tax.
Because as we all know, on the Internet all men are men, all women are men and all children are FBI agents.
