    NOOO!

How could they? I mean, that's just insane! I don't even like Monet (because my high school art teacher was obsessed with him and all we ever did was talk about the impressionist movement and paint in their style). But I'm horrified. Regardless of what I think of his work, it's still a priceless classic piece of artwork. It doesn't deserve to be "attacked" by anyone. There are some paintings at the big art museum in Kansas City that I absolutely detest, but I still wouldn't want this to happen to those pieces. I'd be fine if they were taken down and locked in storage, or moved to a different gallery, but not destroyed.

I know they have people who can restore paintings when things like this happen, but it just seems so savage to me.

It's because they don't care about anything but having fun, and apparently that means wrecking stuff that isn't theirs.

I honestly think that when these punks are found and in jail, their stuff should be all taken and donated to charity, right in front of their faces.

Bastards. Hell I'm a Van Gogh fan and I'd wring their necks if I caught them. Of course if these vandals don't want to act civilized I propose we form a lynch mob when the police find them.
How was I supposed to know someone was slipping you Birth Control in the food I've been making for you lately?

Ok I'm about to voice what may turn out to be a very unpopular opinion here...you've been warned.....

How much did either the museum or private collector pay for that painting?

How far could that money have gone in a school, or afterschool program to keep these kids out of trouble?

how many school books would the cost of that painting buy?

How many meals for the homeless?

How much suffering could be eased?

It's canvas and paint-only valued so high because it's "art", the only paintings I've ever owned were done by a friend of mine, now that she's passed they're worth a couple thousand dollars apiece, I paid $10-and that's what they're worth to me. Think about all the Value of "artwork" that sits in private collections, and museums, and then think of all the poverty in the world-people starving in every country, our schools are closing down because they can't find enough money to pay teachers and buy books. Then think if this was such a horrible crime-especially one bad enough to advocate death to the perpetrators?

It's a material object, nothing more-the kids need guidance, not vengeance for hurting a piece of canvas. I don't believe in "victim hood" however I also don't believe in materialism, which is what this is.

Every day we see kids with parents that don't care or are abusive, and when they act out we blame the child, or the parent, because we don't want to blame ourselves for not taking the time to help and guide, or because we feel guilty for buying that ipod which could've fed a family of four for a month. This society has become extremely materialistic and self-centered, and will eventually self-destruct because of it.
Honestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes
