  • Mom buys son guns for potential school shooting.

Jebus F christ, it looks like there MIGHT have been another school shooting, with guns, bombs, videos of columbine, and it looks like the assult rifle was bought for the kid by the kids mom!

It doesn't sound like she knew anything about the attack.
But it was quite stupid of her to allow him to keep the weapons in his room.

And had the kid gone through with his plan, the parents would have been like "We had no idea he'd do this!"

The parents were indulging the boy's interests because he was unhappy, not knowingly aiding a school assault.

Hmm depressed kid with gun, that'll end well.

The first thing I thought when I saw "Mom bought guns for potential school shooting" and "home-schooled child" were:

"Um, Mom? Shouldn't you, you know...contact your son's teachers?"

Is it wrong that when I saw where this happened I really wasn't surprised that the mom had bought the guns?

You see, I worked a block from that high school about 6 years ago and it seems to be the mentality of the parents in that area that you buy your kids whatever they want. Those kids were so entitled and spoiled it wasn't funny.

I've even seen a mother yell at a cop who was called to our store because kids from the high school were harassing our customers (happened every time there was a home football game) banging on their cars and stuff like that, because he had the audacity to ask them to go and wait in front of one of the closed stores in the strip mall. And then told her child that she never had to listen to anyone even the police and that she could do whatever she wanted to do. (The closed stores were right next door, not even 10 feet away from where they were banging on peoples cars.)

Where I live, parents buy their kids guns all the time. Nothing unusual about that. Mainly 22s and shotguns. A few centerfire rifles and such. We have a high rural population, many kids can go out their back door and shoot at gophers or cans, etc.

Just a month or so ago, a father brought his 10 year old daughter in looking to get her a 22 rifle. She had been shooting BB guns for years and he was looking to get her something better. She knew everything about proper gun handling. Good to see that some parents are teaching their kids right.

When my dad was in school kids brought their rifles, shotguns and handguns to school and left them in their vehicles all the time. Guess how many school shootings there were there, zero. It's not the availability of guns that is the problem. People need to stop trying to blame an inanimate object.

Therin lies the difference, the 10y/o was using the weapons in a controlled environment, and firearms were not seen as anything other than what they are. I'm most definately not trying to start a gun control thread else I would trot off to fratching, but I do beleive if all who wanted firearms were using them like the 10 y/o there wouldn't be half as many problems.

That! is what I read. Jumped from the other post.

My parents have bought swords and axes and other lovely items for me when I've been rather depressed.

Though, the gifts made me feel better.
