Muslim girl pulls out race card and sues hairdresser
Um
why doesn't she try find a job in a Muslim hairdresser then? I mean, I tend to agree with the hairdresser - when I go to a stylist, I expect to see their hair. What condition it's in, the cut etc etc. How else can I know if they actually know what they're talking about? It's like going to a mechanic's and finding out he doesn't know how to drive a car.
I'm sorry, but I wouldn't go to a hairdresser who's hair I couldn't see and who had eyebrows like that no matter what the race or religion. Part of the decision making process in choosing a hairdresser is that person's hair. While I realize that most don't actually do the cutting and processing of their own hair, it still reflects that they know what a) looks good and b) how to maintain that look. I don't know about the UK, but in the US, you have to go to school and be licensed to be hire in a salon. I seriously doubt that if she had gone to cosmetology school that this issue was never brought up with her. People spend the money that they do in salons because of the image that those salons portray.
I guess I don't see how this would be any different than if she decided she wanted to be a model, and refused to take off the scarf.
The only words you said that I understood were "His", "Phone" and "Ya'll". The other 2 paragraphs worth was about as intelligible as a drunken Teletubby barkin' come on's at a Hooter's waitress.
There is a definite need for Muslim hairdressers - it's true that observing Muslim women will not show their hair to males who aren't family. Some of the hairdressers near me have a screen they'll put around female Muslim clients - it's worth it to them have such a screen.
However, unless there's something significant we don't know, I think the suit is silly. My blind friend can't get a job as a graphic designer. I (with physical disabilities) can't get a job shifting goods in a warehouse. And a stylist who won't display her hair can't get a job in a funky hair salon where the stylists' hair is part of the display.
Of course, if she chose to wear a funky wig, that'd work. Her hair would be covered, her funky hair styling would be visible. See? I can fix anything. World peace is next.

Reason: Muslin and Muslim are not the same word. Honest.
Seshat's self-help guide:
1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

If the courts in the UK put this poor woman out of business because of this idiot....grrr...What a petty, rotten, horrible thing to do to someone!
If the job requirement is for you to have a funky hairstyle, then it is a job requirement... covering your head would be unacceptable no matter who you are!
And I tend to agree with everyone else here. If my hair stylist wouldn't display her hair...I'd have second thoughts about hiring her!
Shit like that just burns me up...
I will not shove “it” up my backside. I do not know what “it” is, but in my many years on this earth I have figured out that that particular port hole is best reserved for emergency exit only. -GK
I agree. I would never let a woman whose hair I couldn't see do my hair. Or a woman who had awful hair. Maybe I'm a bit judgemental, but on the very very rare occasion I get my hair professionally cut or dyed, I pick out a girl who has similar taste to me. Vibrant gorgeous hair and a well done makeup. I'd never let a woman with nasty hair and hooker makeup do my hair just as much as I'd never let a woman wearing a burka do my hair. A lot of stylists DO actually do their own hair, and the results always speak for themselves.
I think this lady picked the WRONG line of work, sorry. Why doesn't she just open a hair salon that caters to Muslim women? That way she could work without her burka on (maybe the salon could have tinted windows or something so men couldn't see inside). But oh no, that wouldn't make her as much money as suing someone!
A job requirement is a job requirement. It's like a 55-year-old woman applying for work as a Hooters waitress and getting turned down. If your business is built upon your employees having a certain "look" (in Hooters' case, it would be younger, fit enough to look good in the uniform with an attractive face) then it IS okay to discriminate.
forget the headscarf, hairdressers are huge on image....
if I turned up and my hairdresser had her make up applied with a trowel like both of them I would run... fast...
the lawsuit is totally baseless in my opinion, thats like a dance teacher in a wheelchair, you dont have the ability to use the elements of your body to do the job. Thats not discrimination thats common freaken sence!
