The article above only mentions US Presidents since Franklin D. Roosevelt. But the first US President to visit a war zone was Abraham Lincoln when he visited Fort Stevens, MD, in July 1864. This visit was the only time a sitting US President came under fire from the enemy. It is a shame that article did not mention it.
