        My grandfather spoke at a neighbor's funeral in a tiny desert community. Afterwards, another resident commented on the sparsity of his remarks. "Did I say anything that wasn't true?" "Nope, but you could have said a lot more!"

        He (1892-1982) spent his entire working life on a ranch in Callao, UT, population 20-100. It is still 50 miles to the nearest paved roads. The family spent the winters in Salt Lake for school (they had to catch up & then pass the regular students because they only attended October-April). My mother (& siblings) suspected that a fair number of the old coots out there (Gandy, Trout Creek, Fish Springs, Gold Hill) were the leftovers of the Wild Bunch because of their behavior when a car approached in a cloud of dust... instant fade ...
