  • Lambo idiot dos 219MPH on public roads

    http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/27/i...n-public-road/

    And then it went state-wide:

    And then national.

And TMZ had to add in their two cents:

Wow, that's unreal. I once saw 102 on the digital speedometer of a Subaru XT sports car while driving on a little-used highway in central Oregon (sand and sagebrush!) Once known as the most aerodynamic production car. It's not meant for racing, but it looks great.

Needless to say, I didn't stay there long. It can't be good for the engine when the turbo charger guage is constantly maxed.

And thus another bit of my sordid youth hits the air.

But 219? Damn, if you rear-end someone driving 100 MPH ahead, it would still be like hitting a stationary car at 119! Someone take those kids off the road, or at least get their stupid asses to the tracks. In my neighborhood, Portland International Raceway is the place to run your cars at aircraft speed.

I feel bad for the owner—it looks like someone hired bad valets. I got to play with a few nightmarish cars at my last hotel when filling in as Night Porter. One responsibility is bringing the cars down for the morning's departures. Thanks to the one-way streets and light rail train, I had to travel seven blocks to get back to the hotel. It would have been neat to take the Maserati with a six-speed "computer-controlled clutch" transmission for a spin around the I-405 loop at three o'clock in the morning. *does the Tim Allen grunt*

    Make mine a Tesla.

That's disgusting. Those cars should be BANNED from ALL public roads. Wanna drive like a reckless tool we have private racetracks for things like that.

219 MPH??? Assuming the lambo weighs one ton, he's got as much kinetic energy as my "other car" running empty at 55 MPH. Yep, it's also a 2-seater with a big engine (14 litres), with huge tires (11R22.5) - all 18 of them.

One standard assumption is that from something happening until the driver sees it and starts to apply control input takes a second and a half. At 219 MPH, that's approaching 500 feet - with GOOD high beams, he'd be starting to brake for something at the limit of his visibility. If only he'd hit an alligator during his run - that would have been a candidate for the Darwin awards.

I once went double the speed limit on a 65mph highway.

          Kids do stupid things.

Well, that's a little extreme. To prevent wreckless driving, I'm going to get rid of all cars. Yes, that's right. No cars, no wreckless driving. Extreme? Ahh... ok.

How about I get rid of all cars that do over 75mph? Sound good? What does your car top out at??

Here's the deal... it's not the car that made the person go 219mph. I have this thing called free-will, you do, and so does the driver of the Lamborghini. My car tops out at 120ish, I've never done 120ish in my car. Not in this car, anyway.

If I want to spend $100k on a car that can go over 200mph hour, I'm going to do it. If I want to drive it on the public streets, I'll do that too. I can also choose to drive my new Lambroghini at the posted speed limits, or I can choose to drive 219mph. But, I do have to deal with the consequences of such actions.

I miss the good days when people were just held responsibile for their actions... now cars are held responsible for the person driving them. LAME
