  • Sponsor takes Hannah Montana tickets away from girl with false essay

    http://www.azcentral.com/offbeat/art...hannah-ON.html

Basically, the girl (and her mother!) lied in an essay about her father dying in Iraq to win a makeover and concert tickets.
    Blimey!

Good. That's all I have to say about that.

In my eyes, that's tempting fate. Superstitious? Yes. Wonder how the girl's father feels...

The girl's mother seems to have no regret of doing it. "We did whatever it took to win". Nice to teach your children great morals at such a young age. Does she also watch Zoey 101?

IMO - the sponsor should sue the mother for the price of the makeover, too.

I said it elsewhere and I'll say it here, too.

Doing "whatever it takes to win" through your own honest efforts is not wrong.

Doing "whatever it takes to win" through lying and using someone else's tragedy for personal profit IS wrong - and that's exactly what happened here. It really is a slap in the face to everyone who has lost a loved one in that conflict.

I don't have any sympathy for the cheaters, though the bulk of my ire is reserved for the mother for spearheading the whole thing.

Agreed. I also agree with the person who said that this is tempting fate in a majorly big way - karmic bitchslap, anyone?

someone also suggested her actions were illegal (breaking federal law). might be because of the "stolen valor" act - claiming military honors you didn't earn, including just lying about it in a bar or posting a fake certificate on a wall. ... hmmm wonder if it includes faking being the wife of a dead hero for personal gain.

though i kinda feel bad for the girl - most 6 year olds just do what mommy tells them to do. so if her mom is teaching her "get what you want even if you have to lie and cheat"... then yeah I feel bad for her.

Personally I also think the mother should pay back the cost of the makeover.

And then do community service in a hospital for wounded military.

I like that idea! Give her a serious reality check.

Minor nitpick, she'd be the wife of a dead soldier. Not all soldiers are heroes.

Per CNN, the mother issues an apology, for what it's worth:

She's only apologizing because she's getting lambasted by everyone she sees. There's no real apology there.

Oh, she's sorry all right...sorry she got caught.

That's it exactly. In the original news article, she stated that she did what she had to do to help her child win the contest.

She's not fooling anybody with that lame apology . . . I feel for her daughter though for having such a bad example for a parent.

Yea...how lame do you have to be to lie like that to get concert tickets? Yeesh.

I saw that woman's original response when she was called out for being a liar. I don't think she's very sorry at all. Maybe she will have learned her lesson, now. At least, I hope this teaches her daughter that lying and cheating are not the way to get what you want in life.

Apology my butt. She had to say something to the thousands of people she angered.

I agree with the other posters that she should have to pay for the makeover.
I will not shove “it” up my backside. I do not know what “it” is, but in my many years on this earth I have figured out that that particular port hole is best reserved for emergency exit only. -GK

I was thinking that myself but I remembered her comment justifying it, and no apology at the time. She's not sorry she got caught, she's sorry she's being punished.

                              and 1000 posts! yay!
