    http://www.boston.com/business/artic...stPop_Emailed1

Once a day I log onto Boston.com and check the most emailed stories which usually contain at least one interesting headline. Well today when I looked this was the number 1 most emailed headline. Basically it says that retailers are cracking down on "serial returners" I say it's about time.

It's irritating to me when I hear about people pulling crap like this. Then when YOU buy a big-ticket item and return it with a legitimate defect then you're the one that gets shit about it. Yesterday I bought a $750 37-inch LCD TV at Best Buy and found the picture had a tiny red pixel dot in the upper left hand corner. Luckily I returned it and got it exchanged with a new one that works perfect. I didnt get any crap about it. But that may change soon if companies get fed up with assholes abusing it.

Not if you pay with your credit card. VISA/MC is brutal with stores.

That was one thing I hated about retail. Our company started keeping track of people who returned things without receipts and after 5 returns the system would start flagging them and a manager had to come approve/refuse the return.

The problem with that was, they got a new system that could look up the receipt if the customer paid with credit/debit. It was just supposed to be if a customer lost their receipt but some people figured they no longer needed a receipt and couldn't understand why the system would refuse their return and managers started approving returns willy-nilly rather than try to figure out if it was legitimate.

Depends on what bank it's from. Stay away from Paypal Visa/MC. I had a dispute with an online company that shipped me the wrong keyboard with my laptop. They arrogantly refused to do anything about it. I contacted the bank to dispute the charge and they didnt do a goddamn thing. They actually sided with the online company. Then they falsely promised to take the charge off and didnt.

On the other hand, I've been successful is getting charges taken off where someone DID rip me off online (aka "Ghost Auctions").

"There's lots of times when I buy stuff that someone's bought before. When I rent something, I'm taking good care of it," said Deignan, who works as an event coordinator. "And, it made me look good when I saved my company $600 in rental fees for the projector."
And it also made you look like King Asshole of the Jerk Patrol. I'd love to hear this guy's reason for returning the projector.

Heh. I'm surprised companies (especially the bigger ones that are obsessed with productivity and minimizing loss) STILL put up with this. I'll be damn if I'm gonna sell some stuff on ebay and let all MY customers purchase something, use it as long as they want, and then expect ME to give them their money back for a refund! I'll shut down my business before that happens because I wouldn't be making a profit anymore.

These people suck. Plain and simple.

Imagine the guy proud of "renting" the projector. What a piece of shit.

I really liked the article - thanks for posting it! Glad to see at least some people are toughening up on this issue.

I'm just amazed by King Asshat there, who seemed proud of himself for basically exploiting another company, lying and cheating to be cheap. If I were his boss, I'd be pissed that he scammed someone just to save some $$. Find another way - that's why companies like Rent-A-Center exist (for the most part).

But only because you have a brain and can think beyond dollars and cents. I'm certain there are lots of corporate suits who would love this and be thrilled that they're saving money.

Shit, I might even work for a company populated by such people. With the way they've been cutting hours and positions and just generally trying to do more with less, I'm sure this guy would've gotten a huge-ass bonus for his cost-saving idea.

I was glad to see that they are finally doing something. The funny thing is as soon as I seen the article the first thing in my mind was I gotta post this on CS because it's one of the #1 complaints we all have, and something we have all seen.

People like those SC's wonder why some stores have to hike up prices and have difficult return/exchange/refund policies. It's because of people who want to abuse and scam the system because they're cheap bastards! It's about time!

I love how my work got mentioned in the article...

only 2 years to return a tv is NOTHING, I've had people return 8 YEAR OLD TVs.
