I found this article in the paper version of the Globe here at school (Collegiate Readership Program means free newspapers for students who want them) and immediately thought of CS. I'm psyched that retailers are cracking down on "renters" even though I was in a situation that would likely be considered "renting" last semester that involved a camcorder and a big restocking fee.
No way. Any item bought and returned that can't be resold for approximately the same amount minus restocking fee, doesn't get taken back in my book.
8 years is longer than a lot of equipment is supposed to last nowadays, so if anyone tried returning 8-year-old electronics I'd turn them away flat, and if they pressed the issue too hard I'd ban them in an instant. Even 2-year-old TV's nowadays are worth less than half of what they were when new, depending on the TV. Unless you're charging a 50+% restocking fee, that's a no-go.
