  • TSA Forces Woman to Remove Piercings

The TSA forced a woman in Lubbock, TX to remove her nipple rings prior to boarding a flight to Dallas, while several male agents allegedly were snickering about the ordeal, depsite the fact that there are no regulations that call for the removal of piercings.

She has a case against them. If they do not require the piercings to be out.

That's just horrible. That poor woman! If the one had to be removed with pliers, one can ONLY imagine how painful it must've been! Not to mention the sniggering male TSA agents.

I hope she does consider getting a lawyer, because really, that's just not on.

THis is the same department that "wrote up" my wife and called local police because she wouldn't let them put her crutches in with the luggage (about 2 months after a tiotal hip replacement and they were attached to her arms).

SHe does have a case and should go after those workers.

I'm outraged! First of all, it sounds like they were Captive Bead Rings, which are very difficult to remove without pliers.
Secondly, what if she had them done recently? What if she had a small infection? By taking the piercings out, she could risk either having the holes close up, or trapping an infection in the piercing. It could have meant nullifying close to $100 and weeks of healing for her.

I had my own awkward experience with the TSA and my nipple piercings. The short, older woman who ran the wand over me detained me when my it beeped over my breasts. She had called for some kind of back up, but they were taking their sweet time coming over. She kept groping me looking for weapons I guess. She didn't seem too happy about doing it. Finally, I pushed one so it showed through my shirt. She took a look and said "That's fine. Just go."
She seemed relieved to not have to keep up the grope-fest.

If I had been forced to remove my piercings, I would not have rested until I received some compensation for them.

She's already retained Gloria Allred to represent her in going after the TSA.

The rules in place for this sort of thing are that anyone with piercings that set off the detectors can be checked with a simple pat down and nothing more has to be done if the alarm can be adequately explained by typical piercings.

I too have been humiliated by the TSA during my trips.

first off, let me say I have *huge* breasts. 38K, to be precise. I can't find brazierres just anywhere and I *hate* underwires so I get special bras from Ardyss. Noww, these bras are awesome. They've got inch-thick straps, fully adjustible, four inch, double strength elastic and quadruple enclosures on the back. Since they don't have underwires, my bras have heavy-duty industral strength metal loop/hook just below the shoulder. Sometimes, I even have to wear a corset-like ensemble with half-inch thick metal bones alla long the back when my back gets really painful since my insurance won't cover a back brace.(Fyi, doctors keep telling me I should try to lose weight and fail to realize my chest doesn't shrink with weight loss. They also refuse to give me a breast reduction until *AFTER* I have kids.)

Anyway, everytime I go through metal detectors, I go off.

Usually, I just explain "Its my bra," and motion for the TSA agent to wand over the metal parts (i.e. front and back of my shoulders and midback). After this check, they often leave me the hell alone.

              Not one guy.

I informed him it was my bra. He didn't hear me, so I had to say "Its my bra." louder. He didn't hear me. I had to practically yell/spell it out to him causing people to turn.

              Did he believe me?

Nope. He must have been convinced that my breasts could NOT be real and that I had stuffed my bra with chicken-fillet bombs or something as he wasn't satisfied.

I got escorted to a back room and had to *wait* thirty mintues before they could find two free female agents to give me a more thorough patdown.

TSA will be shaking in their boots with Gloria Allred representing that woman.
