    So she was hiding the pregnancy and gave birth in the shower and then walked to the hospital. It makes me feel better about humanity for some reason.

    Wow....to walk 4 blocks to the hospital with the baby still attached to the umbilical cord?!! I'm happy she and her new son are doing fine and that her family is willing to help her take care of the boy and have her finish school. It's nice to hear something like that instead of hearing about a baby being tossed in the dumpster.

      Yeah, its good to see a story like that but:

      Parra did not call 911 because the home phone was disconnected,
      Unless it is physically disconnected (which landline companies are not allowed to do that) you can still call 911, just like inactive cell phones can call 911.

        While that is the case, most people don't actually know that. They think that because they don't get a dial tone when they pick up the phone that pushing the buttons won't do anything.
