It's already had a small effect in my part of the world. Prices follow a weekly cycle, and wednesday morning's the low point. This morning (Tuesday) we hit last week's low, and this afternoon it went a little lower.

Last night the reccord low was 3.75 a gallon but is back up to 3.83. With any luck the prices will plummet to something decent!

oh and EQ did you say $3.75? if so I seriously hate you... I just paid $3.89 and the only reason I drove was because a bunch of friends went out to wendover and I ended up being the designated driver (they did help with the gas going out but not coming back).... it's so expensive that I now trudge the mile to the closest bus stop (that goes where I need to go) to get to work, then trudge the mile from the bus to the call center... going home I have to take the train which is a 2 mile walk... Lord how I would like to be able to afford to drive again (or get a job somewhere that I don't have to walk 5 miles a day).

Let me say that I hate you both? The cheapest I've seen around me is $4.21 most are at $4.39 though.

The thing is, I heard a few weeks back (and reiterated during the announcement you mentioned) that OPEC claims that there is no actual reason for the high prices (on their end), except speculation from the market and news agencies bellowing about the sky falling.

I payed AU$1.479 today, that was at the low part of the discount cycle and using a coupon for 8 cents a liter off.

That translates to US$5.354 per gallon.

if it makes you feel better, the only reason I got $3.89 was because I had a 10cent off per gallon coupon (thank you Fresh Value card, I love Smith's... Kroger for those of you east of here).

I was kind of hoping the prices would go up. You know the stores, if the prices go down, won't be dropping even though their costs will drop again, the only thing it'd help is the car fillup prices. Surcharges will still exist on things, unless a good percentage of places drop it in the area.

But sadly for the first time ever ---- I'm seeing people WALK places in my town! We're talking a town that you can pretty much reach 3/4 of it from a mile's walk (entire town's just over a mile long). If they instituted a "only semis, public transport, people making purchases at the store/walmart that can't be carried, storms are expected, or people commuting more than 2 miles one way can drive" policy -- the majority of the town wouldn't have any problems. As it is now, people get in their car, start it and drive.... wait for it.... three houses away then pull in and stop their car (you know, a place that had they of walked, they'd of gotten there quicker). I've seen a person get in their car to drive literally across the street backwards (they left their driveway, drove straight into the park's parking lot and parked to---- WALK).

I'd much rather have high gas prices so people would stop wasting gas.

ditto, I have a friend who thinks it is entirely reasonable to drive the block and a half to 7-11 from my condo... he drives like a bat out of hell (lead foot is an understatement) and then he has the nerve to bitch about how much he has to pay for gas... well maybe if you didn't waste so much of it numbnuts...

That news report was 140 percent "correct". BWT oil's now at 140 bucks! And gas here has "fallen" to a NEW all-time high to $4.15. I'm really hoping I land this new teaching job at the high school three blocks away.

That'd be great and all, but I can't make the 5 miles each way walk to work. I walk too slow and I have to get onto the highway for part of my journey.
