That'd be great and all, but I can't make the 5 miles each way walk to work. I walk too slow and I have to get onto the highway for part of my journey.
For many people in smaller towns (i.e. 2mile across or so), it's not as much of a problem. In cities there's always car pooling and such.

As it is, people hop in their car, crank up the air, sit until it's cool, and drive 1-2 blocks to stop. Or they drive a mile to the park to walk, drive a mile to their fitness center, etc. And there's always a bicycle.

Some can't, but there's a lot who could. I've seen a lot of people in my town who have been walking to work, or just doing their shopping one day a week instead of going multiple times a week. One family was shocked that they're saving close to $100-150/week in gas by just driving a little less, and leaving only when needed and not just for "fun". (they're using 25-30 gallons less per week now than before).

sounds like my problem with where I work... it is in a black hole, the closest transit stops are either a bus stop a mile away or a train station about 2 miles away... so bike is about the only option... oh but UTA doesn't understand that people need bikes in this spread out state... capacity on a bus is 2 bike, capacity on a train is 6-10 depending on number of cars... yeah, they are almost always at capacity... I know that it would be easy to increase the capacity on the buses to 3... use the same racks that even the Logan Transit Authority seems to be able to afford (they have a total of 17 buses and don't charge a fare, not exactly high rent, if they can do it so can the Utah Transit Authority). Trains could easily do the same thing that other cities have done, have the option of folding up seats to increase standing area (or in this case bike area)... though we never follow the rules, I've before seen 8 bikes in one car

That seems to be a frequent complaint everywhere.... stores and places don't have bike racks that are actually secure (leaning the bike against the wall is the only option places). Yet I really think that if more places had secure bike positions (like a check-in/out inside the store, where the greeter checked them in/out so there was no chance of a stolen bike unless someone stole a ticket too), there'd be a lot more people riding them instead of driving.

I've actually seen "no bicycle" signs places! And those places that do have bicycle racks don't have enough to make it worthwhile. Although here recently, golf carts are allowed on roads both officially and unofficially. So maybe with everything stores will reconsider things all over.

          Was the stapler red?

In Denmark, a litre of gas is around $2.3.

A gallon is therefore around $10.
