  • Paying with Pennies

We've all seen customers who try to pay in pennies... well this guy tried to pay for $10 worth of gas with pennies:

At least the workers were able to call the police.

... Slight pet peevish of mine. Yes, pennies suck. It sucks to count them. But it still legal tender, and your not losing anything really. Now if someone gets a dollar in gas, and tries to pay with a 100, well that's different.

Calling the police over it seems like overkill, though I'm now curious as to HOW he was assholelly.

Try, as a cashier, counting $10 in pennies, with a long line of people waiting to pay with proper amounts. You'll be losing something alright: your mind!

He was paying with pennies. Doesn't get much more asshole-ish than that. It inconveniences not only the cashier, who presumably had done nothing to deserve this customer's treatment, but other people behind him.

Heh. I work at a convience store in a neighborhood. Try taking hundreds of cans, pennies, nickles, and attempts at badly done countierfiets.

Ten dollars in pennies is only a thousand. Takes about three minutes to count. I've done that and far more.

My favorite being the guy who brought in

3.00 dollars in cans. (60 cans)
        1.50 in pennies. (150 pennies)
1.25 on his EBT cash card.

        For a pack of smokes.

Biggest amount of pennies I took was for a MO of 32 dollars, which he had 15 dollars in pennies.

It doesn't take long to count it, as long as you can count. Stack them in piles of ten, then combine that when it hits 10 of those for those who are really bad at counting. Thats a dollar right there.

It is the choice of the store.
They had delivers and other customers going on. They said they didn't have time to count it out. Ok - that is their choice to say it.
(sadly most clerks are not as Smart, or wonderful as Plaidman)
It sounds like the Penny Payer became close to if not hostile ergo the police were called. True I wasn't there all I can do is read the article.
I have to wonder if this was pre-pay . . .cause otherwise he now has theft added for filling up and not paying.

ive counted 50+ dollars out in verious denominations before 10 dollars in pennys donesnt faze me, helll unless he keeps moving the change or leaves the counter i dont care.
If he leaves the counter i stop, move the change off the counter, messing up my previouse work and take the next customer.
If im stuck there your stuck there
