OK, it's my new foodie blog ... finally got the inspiration to write about what I've been up to. Feedback is appreciated, of course ... I started it last night, so please don't expect a huge tome there.

Would this be the version of Coca-Cola sold in Mexico?

I tried it while in Las Vegas, due to not being able to get my chocolate Coke due to remodeling of the Coca-Cola place. The flavor is more intense that the Coca-Cola we're used to here.

Very good. I think I may start looking for it in the hispanic foods section of my local grocery store.

You can buy the Mexican Coca-Cola in just about all the grocery stores in the southwest. But if you really want something different, Jones Soda is made with sugar cane and has some really nifty flavours.

Oh yes, the Coke here is much, much better. Try to get the Coke for Passover (yes, I know, a bit late this year) or the Mexican Coke as others have mentioned.

We also have a couple nifty local sodas: Royal and Sparkle. Royal is an orange soda. And, Sparkle is lemon. I'm a huge fan of both.

What's great about Sparkle? It's P8 (US$0.18) for a 12 oz bottle. Of course, you have to return the glass bottle when you're done.

I'm not much of a blogger or blog reader, but I am a foodie, so I did read your blog. While I am not quite in your situation, I have at times found it hard to find certain ingredients here in Key West. As much as this is a major tourist destination, it still is a small town (28,000 residents), and there are times where you just can't find stuff. One great example: I love beef tongue. Grew up with it. Love it on a sandwich. In my nearly 9 years here in Key Weird, I have never found any store, market, or deli that sells it. Not even the local rockin' Jewish deli!

Also, I have often made stuff from scratch. When I did that Labor Day dinner back a few months ago, I made just about everything from scratch, including a red wine vinaigrette, a mango papaya salsa, a sweet chili/pepper/passionfruit sauce for the fish--you get the idea.

If you ever need help figuring out how to whip something up, drop me a line. I have plenty of recipes, and can often come up with new stuff on the fly.

Also, since you obviously have access to a computer, take advantage of the many food sites out there for recipes. They DO have recipes for everything, not just finished products, but sauces, season mixes, etc.

By the way, I did disagree with one thing you said--not ALL American tomatoes are lame. While I am not a fan of the state itself, New Jersey puts out simply the BEST tomatoes EVAH! Once you've had a Jersey tomato, you will have spoiled yourself for all others. And of course the best ones are the ones you get at the farm or roadside stands--talk about fresh!

            Good luck!

Oh, I didn't say all are bad. I said the average ones are bad.

Have you had produce from the BC Hothouse (given that it's located in British Columbia, perhaps not). Really great quality. I miss it. Bell peppers (yellow, orange, red, and green) that were all perfect. PERFECT.

I use the web heavily as a resource. Unfortunately, some things are different here or behave differently here (85oF+ and 95% humidity much of the time). Mayonnaise here is sweet like American Miracle Whip. Miracle Whip here is really too sweet. The Filipino palette is different from the American.

I appreciate the offer of help ... should I get stuck, I'll be sure to drop a line.

28,000 .. that's about half the size of my local town. Are there bridges off of your island? Or, do you have to fly/take a boat?

In my case, it's the latter ... no bridges.
