  • Women Trying To Open Plane Door Mid-Flight To "Get Some Fresh Air"

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7527058.stm

... Why, why oh why must people be so absolutely and painfully stupid? Alcohol is a reason, not an excuse!

A part of my brain remembers the good ol' days before I started working in retail. In those days, I wouldn't have believed this story.

Sadly, now I just shrug and sigh.

If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com

But, EQ, you'll notice they didn't actually open the door. So you're safe, even if these drunken bitches are on your flight.

Too bad they didn't succeed and then get pushed out the open door.

With no harm to the rest of the passengers and crew, of course.

                    to the pile of blankets

EQ, to soothe your worried mind i have a bit of info that will help. per FAA regs, All entry points to the pressurized cabin have a fail safe that prevents the doors from being opened. also most airliner doors are designed so that when the plane is pressurized the doors are pressed into their jams. add to that the federal air marshals added to most flights after 9/11 and your really safe. it would be a very cold day in key west for someone to be able to open a door on an American airliner.

As well, the doors are designed that even if the latches are disabled (and I wish ANYONE luck with that) the doors are designed not to be able to be opened as long as the plane is pressurized.

It's basically because the doors open inward first and because the pressure from the cabin is pushing them out it is physically impossible.

Hmm - not allowed to take liquids onto a flight, yet there are suspicions they brought their own alcohol on board.

Anyone else see a potential security breach?

Not necessarily, if you make it past security and buy something at the duty free shop (which includes alcohol) you are allowed to take it on the plane because you got it inside the security check point.
