  • Fake CNN emails infecting PC's

recently e-mails looking like they came from CNN.com have been making their rounds. People who click on one of the articles get a nasty virus installed on their PC, pretending to be a Flash Player update.

    EDIT: here is a update.

    Thanks for the tip.

I just read about it over on cnn.com.

    It's the story for 8/08.

I've gotten spam saying "top 10 news stories" and then "cnn alerts." I hate spammers. Nearly clicked one, but then I remembered that I haven't signed up for anything on cnn.com so why was I getting that e-mail?

I am a volunteer IT person for my church. When I saw our Spam filter was catching a bunch (read: 30+ in one day) of these, i researched it and sent out e-mail to all users warning them of this. One replied yesterday "thanks for the warning, it seemed strange to be getting these" Today, I get a e-mail from same user. They got their PC infected not 12 hours after I sent the e-mail out.

thanks... I got about 6 of em on my gmail account, all but one was flagged as spam, and I too thought how weird.... oddly enough the hotmail one hasn't received any of those emails at all.
