  • These have to be the STUPIDEST damn people in the world!

At least 100,000 people in Texas and Louisiana refused to evacuate as Hurricane Ike rolled through.

And now, people are putting their lives at risk to rescue their dumb asses... AND THEY STILL REFUSE TO LEAVE!

Honest to God, I understand your house/land/cattle are important, but damnit, when your LIFE is at risk because of a Category 4 HURRICANE, RUN!

My favorite quote, from a rescuer:

Agent Mayo encountered dozens of people who refused rescue. Generators were running, and many residents were watching TVs on the top floors, even attics, of their homes. "They told me, 'Come back tomorrow and I might be ready to go,'" says Mayo. "I told them we might not be back, but they were undeterred."

I think if you are in an evacuation zone and don't evac, you should be billed if you call for help. If you are in a manditory evacuation zone and call for help, you should be billed AND fined.

This basically is natural selection; same as if you have a fire drill and people refuse to leave the shop. It should be law that you only have to tell morons once to leave a dangerous situation, and if they don't leave, then you should be legally able to leave them to their fate. People shouldn't have to risk their lives in order to save people from their own selfishness and stupidity.
People who don't like cats were probably mice in an earlier life.

Yeah, I have NO sympathy for people who disobey mandatory evacuation orders. They are dubbing this a humanitarian crisis...it's not to me (not yet, at least!)...if you evacuated like you were told to, there would be no crisis, except that the natural one that has occurred.

I don't know if I'm being too harsh or if what I'm saying makes sense. I've been through hurricanes, like a lot of people on the board. I know what it's like after a big one and there's no food or water that you can get for days. But if you prepared (or evacuated like you were told to do!), you shouldn't need help maybe until the third or fourth day, when aid is usually available.

If I remember correctly, aide didn't reach us after Ivan until maybe the fourth day. We had national guard quickly after, but it took a little while for the food, ice and water to get down here. My family was okay (would have liked more ice after day two) and then we needed supplies on day four because we were really running out.

I hope for those that stay behind that they are okay, despite me thinking they are a little stupid for risking it like that.

my only question is how many are forcing their young kids to stay as well. its one thing to put your life at risk, but another to put a childs life at risk, too.

if somebody told me, hey, get out, or you are going to die, id take one look at my house, and say goodbye and leave.

Me too. If there was time, I'd pack some essentials (food, water, clothing, blankets), otherwise I'd make like a hockey player and get the puck out of there!

There is no possession in this world that is worth losing your life over.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

I could have sworn FEMA said that any one not following the mandatory evac order was going to have to fend for themselves. I wonder what happened with that?

Anyone willing to bet 'bad rep from Katrina'? Not to mention the idiot's relatives whining that their kin 'have to be helped' (even though they were stupid to ignore the evacuation order).

I've come close to getting hurt in the past trying to rescue kids and animals, but I would _not_ risk my health or life for these clowns.

"Oh please, won't someone think of the CHILDREN!1"

As a volunteer rescue worker (never been called out, never expect to, but could realistically be doing exactly that job, leading a small team) ... If I say I'm here to evacuate you for your safety and you say no, I'm going to your neighbour's, and we're not coming back here. I might politely suggest it's in your best interests, but I will not ask my team to argue with or attempt to force, anyone who refuses to go. If they ain't going, they's staying.
