  • Hershey's tries to fix what ain't broke

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26788143/

They're substituting vegetable oil for cocoa butter in some of their products. Bleh!

This is all that can come of it.

Is it really worth them saving a few bucks if they alienate people from them?

So if they take the cocoa butter out of it then it's not really chocolate anymore. It'll become just a dark slab of solid oil.

I've never been all that fond of Hershey's chocolate. I find it has a funny aftertaste, especially the Kisses and the solid plain chocolate bar.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

When you can find it pure and fresh it tastes good but lately to strech the supply of cocoa ingrediants they have been adding more eddible wax, so yea now they are really going cheap and fake.

Bleah. I'll willingly pay more for better chocolate. Chocolate is one of life's necessities that you don't skimp on!

I've found that a good lower priced alternative is Pocky. I've also found that Morley chocolate is still pretty good.

I know that Hershey employees hate it when they make changes.... sometimes they have to be re-trained for how to do things (different recipe -- imagine making something the same way for 5-10 years then be given a different recipe).... then after they make the changes -- so many people complain that they change back.

Any cost savings they make are lost in the training/repackaging/commercials to get back customers.

never been a big herseys fan myself

but thats just sick, cocoa butter is what MAKES it chocolate

its like these kids yogurts that cant legally be called yogurt because they are really a "dairy food" or the fake cheese....

                eat real food people!!!

I thought the Krackel bars I had tasted funny.

So, the largest chocolate company in the US (possibly the world?) now produces "mockolate" (I like that term!)

Yep....I think I'll ditch Hersheys, the thought of having vegetable oil in what's supposed to be chocolate is sickening to me as a chocolate lover.

Well, unfortunately, in blind taste tests, the subjects often found the "mockolate" to taste better! So...what do you expect? It's cheaper and apparently, people thought it tasted better.

I would just check the label. I like hershey's chocolate, but I probably won't buy the "mockolate" stuff. I'm gonna check the label, and do my best to avoid the products they've admitted to fucking with. (none of which I've eaten before or after the switch, so I can't say if they are better or worse tasting)

At least the chocolate bars and regular kisses are still real!!!
I will not shove “it” up my backside. I do not know what “it” is, but in my many years on this earth I have figured out that that particular port hole is best reserved for emergency exit only. -GK

I say it's because they don't know what good chocolate tastes like.

You know, lately, I've been loving the Hershey's Bliss brand of chocolate (they're made more like Dove bars apparently), but the plain old Hershey bars have been tasting funny. I had just written it off as my tastes changing (happens pretty often). Huh. *goes into room, gets Hershey bar*

                          ...

No, this one still says "Milk Chocolate" and has cocoa butter listed as an ingrediant. The story even says the plain chocolate bars are staying the same. So that's not it for me.

Next time I buy a bag of Bliss, I'll have to do the comparison on that one.

I made the mistake of buying some good dark chocolate for cheap (post-holiday clearance, 50% off). It was *really* good. So why was it a mistake? Because I haven't been able to enjoy a chocolate bar since then. It all tastes like butts.
