  • Favorite 80's videos

So, the hubby and I got sucked into VH1's "Top 100 songs of the 80's" last night and it got me thinking about some of my favorite songs from the 80's.

Here's one of my top ten...

Big Country "In a Big Country"

There are several others I could post, but what are some of yours?

*The first person to Rickroll this gets pelted with large heavy objects. Just sayin'.

The video is OK, but I LOVE this song. We saw Duran Duran in concert about 3 years ago and they were still amazing (and Simon LeBon still looked pretty damn good ).

Not a rebel song, my ass Bono. It all depends on what you're rebelling against.

Ah, I do love me some 80's music. One of my 'listen to in the shower' CD's is a compilition of hair metal.

Sebastian Bach - finest set of pipes on ANY hair metal lead singer. This was also my class song - and I graduated high school in 2001. But it's okay, we sang "Days Gone By" during the ceremony. Nothing says Pomp and Circumstance like a little Slaughter.

When I was little my dad used to be the veejay for a show in St. Louis called Hot Hit Radio. They showed him in a cylindrical glass room filled with fog and those giant headset earphones on with a red satin jacket. You couldn't even make out his face.

I used to beg and plead to stay up late to see it and then I'd hope and pray that either Take On Me was on or Thriller, especially Thriller. I may not like Michael Jackson now, but that video... wow. It still is amazing.

I didn't watch all that much music videos, but I have to agree with you. This was the best I ever saw.

I've been sending music videos to my GF. She seems to look forward to getting them every morning.

                Best 80's video ever!
that one has my vote, extremely innovative.

The 80s were a great time for music (and if you owned a hair products factory). Completely new styles, new fashion, and now this new thing called "music videos" coming out in the spotlight.

OK, who remembers the pre-MTV days watching "Friday Night Videos"? I remember these two:

Alan Parson's Project: Don't Answer Me
                http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALC7kt6iUHY
(this one is in my top also)

                Slade's Run Runaway
                http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHoPYLQvnQM
(IMO Slade is a highly underrated band)

But, we can't forget the first video ever played on MTV:

Darn my sister beat me to putting A-ha up

Ah The Buggles I saw one of the buggles on stage (Asia gig - Awesome) Geoff Downes to be precise (the Guy playing Keyboards) so we got treated to Asia doing Video Killed the Radio Star

                  So speaking of Asia...

                  Heat of the Moment

And well because I'm a huge a-ha fan...

                  Hunting High and Low

And well it was the 80s...

The Safety Dance - Men without Hats

I'm sure I'll think of more
As soon as I start thinking
                  That I'm sensible and sane

Hey now, I didn't force you to do anything. Besides, it fun going back a little, isn't it?

Here's a cool cover of Flock of Seagulls by one of my favorite current bands...

                          G&R has my respect.

However Def Leppard are my boys. Joe Elliot is one of the few guys who can pull off the long-hair look.

My two favorite videos/songs of theirs are "Pour Some Sugar On Me" & "Two Steps Behind", in the latter, Joe is at his yummiest!

Hubby and I saw BFS in concert a couple of years ago at Pierre's in Fort Wayne. Very good show. I highly recommend seeing them if you have not already. You have to love any band who regularly covers 80's songs, Britney Spears tunes (Their version of "Baby one more time" is how it should have been done in the first place. Dark and slightly creepy), and takes beer breaks in the middle of songs.

Also, I have to second on the Joe Elliot thing. The man is still just as yummy today as he was 20 years ago. And let me also say that "Two Steps Behind" is quite possibly my favorite DL tune.
