  • New movie sequels coming!

    http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/article...anger_20080926

    A LOT of new sequels and remakes were announced this week, here's a list of a few of them with links to the source article or the film itself on RopeofSilicon:

    * The Lone Ranger
    * Pirates of the Caribbean 4
    * National Treasure 3
    * Hairspray 2
    * Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
    * I Am Legend Prequel
    * Lethal Weapon 5
    * Let the Right One In

    On top of all that we learn Rachel McAdams will play the lead female in Sherlock Holmes, Pixar's Cars 2 has been bumped to 2011 and Newt moves to 2012, Spike Lee said Anthony Hemingway may be directing George Lucas's Redtails about the Tuskegee Airmen and while Johnny Depp may be down for a Pirates of the Caribbean 4 it sounds like Keira Knightley is done with it.

    Some rumors have George Clooney as a potential star for The Lone Ranger starring opposite Depp who will play Tonto.

    George A. Romero is making yet another zombie movie.

    Yahoo has some Iron Man concept art and the first look at the cover art for The Dark Knight Blu-ray and Batpod Blu-ray are online.

    Also Johnny Depp confirmed that he will star in the next Tim Burton film, Alice In Wonderland. It will be a live version, and he will play the Mad Hatter.

    I am looking forward to Pirates 4, National Treasure 3 and Hairspray 2. The lone ranger movie too, maybe.

    Thoughts, complaints, rants...

            Alice in Wonderland is eh. There was a rumor years ago that they were going to make the movie Alice based on American McGee's Alice. Now that I'd pay to see

                The Leathal Weapon series should have stopped at #3.

                  Nah, Lethal Weapon 4 was good. But 5? Long past retirement now guys! Both of them. Eugh.

                  Dirty Rotten Scoundrels? Some movies do NOT need remaking!

                      What would Hairspray 2 be about?
                      To quote Mel Brooks, "The search for more money!" That's what most of these sequels are about.

                      I've heard Danny Glover say many times that he'd never do another Lethal Weapon mostly because they ended 4 so definitively. Personally, my ranking would be: 1, 4, 2, 3. 3 was really lame. But I do love the Lethal Weapon series. Richard Donner is an underrated director (16 Blocks was really good.) If they can get Shane Black back in to write it, and all of the original folks, it could be okay. But I'm sure it would be Murtaugh and Riggs training younger cops, and not in the action themselves.

                      Oh, and don't forget about the rumored Ghostbusters sequel (although Bill Murray has also said repeatedly he'd never do another sequel, and they have to have all of them). And the RHPS sequel.

                      Yes, Hollywood is out of ideas. They have been for a long time.

                        Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was a remake of the 1964 film Bedtime Story.

                            That one has to be just a rumor. At least, it better be.

                            Pixar's Cars 2 has been bumped to 2011...
                            My first thought was that of all the Pixar movies this is the one that least needs a sequel. Then my overanalytical (nice word for nitpicky) mind remembered all the unanswered questions that floated through my head during the first movie. Where do cars come from? Is there actually a manufacturer in their world which produces these sentient automobiles? Are there baby cars; do they grow at all? Is there some sort of evolutionary tree to vehicles as implied by the tractor-tipping scene? What sort of history would this world have? Do the cars ever ask themselves why they have things like seats, steering wheels, gas pedals and brakes and so on? Did humans ever exist, and if not, why does their imprint seem to be all over this world?

                            In short, my nerdy self would probably enjoy it if Cars 2 explored and explained the world of Cars a little more, though I doubt that's why it's being made.

                              Tell that to the new Rambo, Indiana Jones, and Rocky films that came out earlier this year.

                              And I agree w/ Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, you cannot top that. Cain, Martin, and Headly were perfect together.
