  • Teacher fakes cancer

A high school math teacher in Knoxville, TN, announced that she had breast cancer. The school rallied around her the students had a prom with proceeds going to her care. Now, it appears that she lied about getting cancer. This isn't the first time, either I believe.

The term "twisted psychopath" barely begins to cover this. I hope they track her down and force her to reimburse all those she stole from!

If you read the full article, you'll see that she didn't take any of the money (it all went to charity), and she never took disability leave. There were small gifts, yes (the fridge, a turtleneck, an iPod), but this doesn't seem like material fraud.

Emotional fraud, yes. But that's not something someone can pay back, and it does seem like she is a very sick woman - albeit not in the way she portrayed. I don't think she should be allowed to work without revealing her history, but she is getting help and unless she is diagnosed as a sociopath (which I doubt she is), then the past should be left in the past and she should be helped to build a new life.

considering that a fridge and ipod combined can come out to at least $300 depending on what kinds you get.... i'd say yea it was material.

and she's done this before too.... if it's not for financial gain then it's an Attention Whore thing

My mom has taken over her position at Paulding High here in GA. The whole school is still pissed/upset/confused, and she left in 2003(maybe '04?)

                Sounds like classic Munchausen.

I've heard of that happening before.
People are so desperate for attention that they invent these elaborate fantasies, and are so convincing in their lies that they even begin to believe the lie themselves, and appear legitimate even to people who know them.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.
