Edited to make it correctAlthough he was correct, Alex's actions show a blatant disregard for stupidity, and a complete lack of tolerance for my ignorance. In the future, Alex would be better off simply not accepting my teachings at all.
Please see to it that your son transfers to a different class immediately.

Meh, I got sent to the principal's office for having the temerity to correct my history teacher. he was insisting that Walter Reed singlehandedly 'invented' the yellow fever vaccine.
He thereupon took away my copy of Portraits of Nobel Laureates in Medicine and Physiology when I tried to physically show him he was wrong. His opinion was that a 10 year old should not be reading that.
One of my few stints in public school in the US. I was seriously thankful to get sent to a private montessori school after that. My mother was *not* amused at my treatment in american public schools. When I was growing up the policy was if we were tall enough to get a book off the shelf, we could read it. If we didnt understand something, we knew where the dictionary and encyclopedia was. That book was a christmas present to me from my parents because I was interested in science at that early age.EVE Online: 99% of the time you sit around waiting for something to happen, but that 1% of action is what hooks people like crack, you don't get interviewed by the BBC for a WoW raid.

Even though that letter is 14 years old, it would not shock me if they still have a teaching job. I had a LOT of idiot and ignorant teachers growing up who are still teaching.
And people WONDER why Americans are so dumb sometimes...not really our fault if we have moron educators like these!

I had a math teacher like that once.
He was demonstrating how to do a certain type of problem on the board, and I tried to ask if it wouldn't be faster to do it a different way. He FLIPPED OUT and started yelling, telling me if I knew so much I could walk out and not come back until the final. He finally calmed down, finished doing the problem his way, then immediately demonstrated the way I had been talking about.
I still regret not actually taking him up on his offer to walk out.

Since I graduated early from hich school (I was almost a sophmore in college when in high school), I had to take some classes that I normally wouldn't of been caught dead in --- computer class (I had been paid for programming jobs 10 years prior, I knew what I was doing).
Teacher would do things that was so wrong it wasn't even funny. She had a few days devoted to the proper way to insert a 3.5" floppy disk.
I thought "oh, my, god.... you have got to be f'n kidding me" -- apparently with "rolling my eyes" as she said (a quick thing of "put it in like this, got it?" would've sufficed, not two-three days). She kicked me out of her class lol (literally, I had to sit in the other room). Next class day, she sent me to the other room before class started. Guidence counselor walked in, asked to see her, and I was then invited to be back in class. She was told "he's in your class, you will like it, and he will pass."
She learned a lot from me, instead of hating me, she asked me questions on how to do things lol. Even said I was a pleasure to have in class on the report card. I was even the school computer tech (I'd be pulled out to fix computers/printers while in class).
Oh, point being that what she did with me was actually fairly common with other students too (only I had backing up to the school board). If you knew more than she did (wasn't her fault, she just didn't want or know things about computers), she didn't want you in class and she'd kick you out or fail you. You had to do things her way (the wrong way) or you'd fail.

Ah-ha! I knew I'd seen that letter before! May I present the Snopes page on the subject: http://www.snopes.com/humor/letters/hilliker.asp
Kinda sucks, though. They left it as undetermined. What if Humans are just Dire Halflings?

I used to get letters from my teacher for Mom a lot. Usually with bad spelling and major grammatical errors (I'm not perfect, but my Mom reads a lot and... is.) so she'd edit the Teacher's letters and make me take them back.
I was a bit of a problem child in school. My third grade teacher even said I would never amount to anything and would never graduate high school.
Well, the following year I started being homeschooled, graduated early (I was 16) and faxed her a copy of my diploma. Boy, I wish I was there for that.
I'm getting ready to go to college for Business and Hotel management so I can own and operate my own hotel. Hopefully the cruel old bat is still around to receive THAT fax.
