USGS has conducted a simulation / survey of what a 7.8 magnitude earthquake would do.

The first map shows the path of the quake as it rips though southern California. At the bottom of the page you can see how some towns / cities / areas would be affected by it.
To me, it's fascinating to watch it move across the entire fault.
(And to think this isn't the largest potential risk the US has for seismic activity).
