  • Transgender Day of Remembrance

Today is the international Transgender Day of Remembrance.

On average, two people who identify as Transgender are killed every month, usually in a violent fashion. This year alone, 26 have already died. Most of these men and women never make the news, or if they do, the blame is placed on them rather than on their attackers. Most of these murders are never solved. The few that are usually result in the killer going free.

Please take a moment today to think about those people who were just trying to be themselves, and were killed for doing so. If you wish to attend a vigil, or direct people to a site for information, http://www.transgenderdor.org/ is the official website.

http://www.rememberingourdead.org/about/core.html is a list of those killed up through 2007.

http://www.transgenderdor.org/?page_id=58 are those killed this year, so far.

How people can just overlook these types of violent hate-crimes, I'll never know.
